I've occasionally been informed by members of certain religious traditions that I need to be saved from something. What is it that I need to be saved from?

The way that story usually goes? By my estimation you need God to save you from... God.

Well Christians would say from sin and Satan's claws; basically eternal damnation.
    Other religions I'm not sure.

Hope this helps from a Christian standpoint. :)

One word answer to all faiths I came in contact with: yourself.

I'm not aware of any religion that teaches that one needs to be 'saved' apart from Christianity.

from what I've gathered it is self and the idea of selfishness and for others it the polar opposite that you need to be saved from other selves and self-annihilation. Unfortunately some take it to the extreme of asceticism or hedonism. the balance is a happy medium between the two. Love makes two as ONE

There is a certain logic to that. As an example, various agricultural deities manifest in ways that keep your belly full over the winter or leave it aching in the pain of starvation. Either way, you need them.

This probably isn't where you were going with that, though. :D

Therefore, you'd have to accept some particular idea of "sin" and "Satan" and that there is such a thing as "eternal damnation." That is, you'd have to accept that the things one is supposed to be saved from are indeed a thing, yes?

I am not either, however I'm not aware of the full beliefs of other religions.

@Quintessence I believe God saves a person out of tribulations that would cause the believer to lose faith. Therefore, if a person does not possess the faith in the good God will do, then there would be nothing to save that person from.

I believe, On a worldwide scale, God uses us to prevent the end of us, thus, saved.

I imagine there was a terrible end of life on Earth. God injected Jesus in so now the end is changed and can't be what it was. To believe in Jesus is to save the future for the children. It is about saving Humankind except for those who would wish an end of the Earth for life everlasting.

Life after death is a different story, imo.

Why would someone need to be saved from themselves? I mean, you can't be anything other than yourself. If you believed you needed to be saved from yourself all the time, wouldn't that encourage such immense dissatisfaction with one's own existence that it would lead to mental illnesses like depression and possibly resolve in suicide?

    Correct.
If you do not believe in Jesus, God or eternal damnation, there is little likelihood that you shall be saved; because to be saved, you must believe.

I am not either, but as much as I've aimed to study up on various world religions from time to time, there is so much out there that trying to know all of them is as ridiculous as trying to know all of the sciences well. In short, it doesn't happen.

Oooh! This is intriguing. Can you unpack that thought a little more for us?

Regarding Mary, the angel told Joseph; "She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) Since sin leads to death, Jesus was to save those exercising faith from both sin and death. (Romans 6:23)
I believe we will also be saved from pain, sorrow, sickness, and from evil, wicked people. (Revelation 21:3,4, Psalm 37:10,11)

True. I do own several Hindu holy scriptures though. I love the little things one can glean from religion, like this:

"Clouds and dust are carried by the air, but less intelligent persons say that the sky is cloudy and the air is dirty. Similarly, they also implant material bodily conceptions on the spirit self."

Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto I, Chapter III, Text 31.

Well, many more common religions in one way or another separate sacred from non sacred in a lower vs higher (or limited vs unlimited, finite vs infinite etc) way of seeing things.

The latter part, that's why people go to confession, for example, because being reminded they are limited, finite beings that need gods grace. It's encourages dependency. Yes, many people are disatified with their own existence to where some die sooner to go to god and others give their live to the Church because there is "no where else" they can go to get the needs god can only give them.

But as for you being saved... I notice it fustrates people when I say I don't need to be saved. To them it's, "you mean you don't need anyone to help you out."

Spiritual chronic depression heightened by mid-life crisis.

Not being a joke just what I observed here from all the elders that I live around.
