From a historical standpoint, what, in his own lifetime, did Jesus of Nazareth achieve? I am having trouble figuring this out, because I can see objectively that Muhammad had a huge impact upon not only his own society but others, all within his lifetime. That the impact was either good or bad is not my point here, but that had had one. Baha'u'llah had some direct impacts, if small, upon his society. In contrast, I can't think of anything Jesus did that no-one else could have done.

He was born, he preached, he was executed.

This is probably going to turn into an 'It was all Paul not Jesus' thread, but have at it anyway.

He established a new covenant. He laid down what Thomas Jefferson called, "the most pure, benevolent, and sublime (precepts) which have ever been preached to man."

He healed the sick, raised the dead, and defeated Satan at Calvary so that all who believed in Jesus could be saved unto eternal life.

And he changed the world for the better.

    This is your belief.

And unlike the Jewish belief that Moshe wrote the Torah and Muahammad gave the Qur'an, Christians do not believe Jesus wrote any of what is ascribed to him.

    What did he do objectively?

Philosophically, he combined the healing, passiveness, and message of James of Carthage with the slaughtered Messiah of the Essenes. Actual accomplishments? He drew the ire of Rome without going into their documentation.

I already told you. And Jesus didn't have to write books about himself. He knew the Christ mockers wouldn't believe him anyway. :)

I do not need to believe in Muhammad and his Qur'an to understand that he had a direct impact upon Arabia in his lifetime and that only a certain type of individual could have achieved this. What did Jesus do that I need not believe?

you do not need to believe in the miracles

but the parables are meditation leading to self discipline

I can find this in Judaism though, which came before Christianity, what makes Jesus' parables so exciting? They exist in all religions.

    recently....someone dropped the notation......Lectio Divina
in response to a post I wrote

    had to look it up

so it seems....I have this natural lean to place myself in the scenario

    and it moves me

    be it parables
    be it report of event
I can see it.....as if I am standing right there

I've heard several times from sources that Jesus' "The Prodigal Son" is a literary masterpiece.

Nothing special. Even his purported teachings weren't original. Siddhartha's teachings are superior when it comes to establishing a doctrine of tolerance, compassion and methods of dealing with daily life, imo, and he was centuries earlier than Jesus. Jesus had a lot of character flaws, too.

What original "teaching" did he come up with?
"golden rule" is as old as dirt.

If you think your response is a literary classic you would be badly mistaken.
