What are the causes of Stockholm Syndrome?

What are the causes of Stockholm Syndrome, where a victim captive has an alliance or even love for their captor?

What are the reasons for victims of physical, verbal, or sexual abuse developing a desire to be abused in the way they had been victimized prior? What is the psychology behind it?

I'm asking for personal opinions of what you make of it, so please don't use Google.

Survival.

The victim and the perp have a complex relationship to each other. The victim comes to believe that the 'good' side of the perp is his actual personality (although it is just manipulation), and any abuse etc. is aberrant, and s/he must have done something to deserve it. Secondly, because the need to survive is the first need, and the victim does anything in order to do so, which ultimately just ends in giving up in the hope that the perceived punishment will become less frequent.
