What are the best ways to tackle depression or anxiety?

Topic title: What are the best ways to tackle depression or anxiety?

Become a Christian, which simply means you like Jesus..:)
It won't make people completely immune, but it'll help them roll with the punches life throws at us.
And you don't have to go to church or get baptised or any of that razzmatazz if you don't want.

News article- "People who pray frequently are less likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, according to a study.."
More- BBC News | HEALTH | Praying 'aids mental health'

It's a POWER thing-
"After Jesus spent the night in prayer, everybody tried to touch him because POWER was coming from him"- Luke 6:12-19
Jesus said - "Someone touched me, I know that POWER has gone out from me." (Luke 8:46)
"And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed" (Mark 6:56)

And we too can "touch" Jesus by logging onto him to get a 'feelgood power download', just mumbling a few words now and again will get us connected, even if it's just "Jesus remember me", whenever we're feeling tired, lonely, fed up..

Having been raised a Christian I find it to be the most miserable experience in life. To be brought up knowing that you are "born into sin" is just the most demented thing possible. I have no intentions on leading a miserable life at all.

I stand in opposition to Jesus, Muhammad and Baha'ullah or anything of the likes. No such evil is worth my time. The very fact you realize I have anxiety issues and offer me misery and despair only shows character stripping abilities your religion has

Huh? Which bit of this is evil?-
Jesus said "Love one another, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the destitute, tend the sick, visit the prisoners, look after the poor" (Mark 12:30, John 13:34, Matt 25: 37-40)

Incidentally, God sends guardian angels to look after people, but if you don't want one, nobody's forcing you..:)
"If you make the Most High your dwelling..he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways" (Psalm 91:9-11)

Were you raised a strict Catholic? Lol. That's an S&M religion if there ever was one.

I found physical exercice to be helpful against depression. It doesn't always work on the spot, but on the longterm tendency you should feel better.

Nope, non-denom although my parents came from a Baptist background. Non-denoms are very kooky if you ask me because they are so strong on the end of the world kinda stuff it just scares me. It seems more like breeding ground for crack pot preachers to settle in and be accepted.

Rather kooky if anything.

Personally I love the S&Mishness of Pagan cults and Shia Islam. Shi'ites whip themselves with chains, as masochistic as it gets if you ask me

The usual culprits ... exercise, diet, sleep, good friends, keeping productive, association with positive people, honesty, affirmations, sense of humour,

Well, that explains things.

I've heard that being overweight, unattractive, unkempt, lazy, and indications of being socially introverted...may lead to feelings of depression and anxiety.

If there was only a pill as a cure...

Nah, I tick most of those boxes and I feel great because it means we're not afraid to do our own thing, nobody tells us what to do..:)
For example after I left school years ago my dad used to hammer on my bedroom door at the crack of dawn yelling "Come on, get out of bed and look for a job, they're crying out for people at the glue factory!", but I just thought "Oh stick it!", and turned over and went back to sleep.

Like people have already said in this thread, keep clear of people who give you negative vibes-
"He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20)
"If you hang around with losers, you become a loser"- Donald Trump

Only hang with people who make you feel good-
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17)

Speaking of 'unkempt', Jesus's young cousin John was a world-rejecter who lived rough in the wilderness, ate wild food and wore animal furs, sometimes going in town to yell insults at the snooty priests and corrupt rulers.
Jesus's verdict on him?-
"John is the greatest man ever to be born" (Matt 11:11)

Flogging yourself bloody was a form of penance in the Catholic Church for centuries. There's still people who do it during Holy Week processions in the more traditional Catholic areas, along with being crucified. People would also wear hair shirts and use the cilice.

For a deeper look at Catholic sadomasochism, there's this: Graphic: Sadism, Masochism and Sadomasochism - Bad News About Christianity

Of course, I'm into sadomasochism, myself, but if you're going to do it, do because you enjoy it. Don't be a hypocrite about it and be safe about it. It's obvious that many of these religious people who do it and who have done it throughout the centuries enjoyed it but it was mixed up with self-hatred, making it disordered and hypocritical.

Maybe it didn't work for you, but it did for others like me. Please consider the feelings of this humble one. I'm not evil :( . I see the best way to face it is neutrally. Don't bother yourself with it much. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with religions. Maybe part of your depression is because you think about it too much?

Try to take it easy :)

Generally speaking, Christians are superkool, well-balanced, goodnatured and fearless because they know this material world counts for zilch and is not important-
"For we look at things unseen rather than the seen, for the seen are temporary, but the unseen are eternal" (2 Cor 4:18)
Their confidence shows in their eyes..:)

Get me off of this planet
Get **** drunk and go on religious forums.

I kid, that's a little vague... I've struggled with depression and all, not anxiety really.

Laughter makes the world turn for me, laugh at yourself, laugh at everything.

Honestly, my bed side manner is non-existent.

Christians by far are the most uncool and most hateful people I have ever known. Saying this world means zilch is why they are in the situation they are in now. The very fact you say such things makes me depressed because I cannot have a conversation with people unless they are sane human beings who love life. The very fact most people do not baffles me and has made me depressed for a while now.

Keep yourself busy with your passions and develop yourself. Socialise and have people who can be there for your support. Exercise works too. And don't suppress your negative emotions. Release in a positive way. For example if you feel like crying and screaming then do so in your room. I know I have given an extreme example but bottling your feelings won't do. Stay away from negativities. If you fear something badly then avoid it. If you think you are ready for it then face it to get used to it. Positive affirmations, meditation and spirituality works too. Best of luck.
