I have heard that Ganesha's mouse in called Abdul Mustafa. I wonder if you can comment on the reasons for this?

Also, what is the name of the tortoise devotee of Shiva again? Kachi, something like that?

The story goes that it was a demon, Mushakasura whom he subdued. At the time Ganesha chose his mount, there were no Muslims. Don't know about Kachi.

Interesting. I was told by a Tamil Malaysian Hindu at an ashram that the mouse's name was Abdul Mustafa, so in some tradition it must be that he is named this for some reason.
