A little long, but well worth it. Anyone ever done this?

Yes ... but only simple stuff like marbling ...
if you look at old books they often have marbled inside covers, also some are marbled on the blocks of pages.

We used to do it to T-Shirts but much more abstract than that by putting oil based paint on water and then laying the T-Shirt on it,cool pic though

Is that how tie-die is done? I never thought of that...

Tie dye is done by folding the cloth and literally tyeing it with cord while it is dyed
The dye is restricted where the cord is bound,
You can then re-tie and re dye with a different colour.
Tie die is hanging by the neck.
