And maybe Jesus was a shaved orangutan who had mastered speech, or maybe he was a visitor from the Andromeda galaxy--but in deference to Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation is the most likely one--Jesus was as he is described, a man.

You know what a prophet is, right--one who is spiritually gifted with the ability to understand the divine will and purpose?

Did you see what is written under my name there?

That allows me the ability to assure you with even greater confidence than the mere weight of probability that Jesus was a man.

On one hand, I don't think it makes any difference, so no - not really. It's his teachings and character that are important, and of course his sacrifice

But on the other, I think it would be cool if he was! :)

But I still maintain it is a possibility and I think it adds another dimension to his whole life story

I like him regardless of his sex but would be certainly be happy to learn that he was/is intersex :)

i might be wrong but it feels like you have a little obsession with this topic. As a Buddhist i see human as human no matter if it is man or woman.

OK, I thought you were making some point about Jesus's status as a prophet, I misunderstood

I was reliably informed on another thread that god has no DNA. Therefore no "Y" chromosome to pass on to his progeny.

This can only mean Jesus cold not possibly be "XY" (male) but "XX" (female) .

    Isn't genetics cool?

    I don't think I'm obsessed

I don't think making a thread about this on a forum dedicated to religion constitutes being obsessed!

And as I said before, I don't think it matters - or that we'll ever know

    It's just possible, that's all I'm claiming

And makes for some I think interesting speculation

Yes, if Jesus had been produced by the mere physical process of parthenogenesis, He would have been XX. But we're talking about the Guy who created chromosomes in the first place--He could easily cook up a Y out of thin air in Mary's uterus. (Yes, I know there's no air in there, it's just a figure of speech.)

I've said it before; the miracle of Jesus' birth is not that He was born of a virgin--that happens a lot in lower species (although just the once that we know about in humans)--the miracle is that He was born a male!

In this case, it was in the context you invoked, of Jesus being the magical offspring of God.

Nope, it was in the context of supposition that a god exists and excuses to fill in the gaps.

No, it was in the context you invoked of Jesus being the magical offspring of God. You noted that since you had been told that God has no DNA, He would not be able to pass on the Y chromosome in the process of Jesus' conception.

In the context of that magical conception, I asserted that even more magic could have produced a Y chromosome out of thin air (or out of amniotic fluid, whatev).

Jesus was male, because male has the x chromosome with the y. If he was female he wouldn't have the y. the female side of him is hagia sophia of the god.

How can we possibly know for sure which chromosomes he did or didn't have?

We have no way of telling

the ecumenical council speaks that Jesus was a perfect man. the Holy Spirit guides the ecumenical council to not speak error.

I invoked nothing. I reported what i had been told by a god believer and provided the factual solution to that claim.

I see nothing in the bible about chromosomes so can only assume you made it up to fill a gap

Ah, I see you don't know what "invoking a context" means, so I'll move on.

    Have a good one!

As a form of god there's no reason for Jesus to posses the sexual characteristics of either gender. In fact, the same could be said of god himself. He certainly has no use for genitalia or enlarged breasts, or a beard, or a belly button, a little piece of anatomy he's been shown to have.

So, while I guess Jesus could have been a hermaphrodite, I think it's far more likely he was born without any sex organs or sexual characteristics at all.

Of course this doesn't mean he wasn't flying under the radar when he appeared to others. After all, ya can't be frightening the town folk too much. Gotta be in some kind of workable guise, and how better than to present oneself as a male.
