Voter fraud in North Carolina

House race in limbo after North Carolina voter fraud claims | Reuters

The North Carolina board is expected to look into accusations that people came to the doors of Bladen County voters ahead of the Nov. 6 vote and asked them to hand over ballots, sometimes unsealed and uncompleted. Filling out a ballot for another person, or destroying it, is illegal.
The party has said it has affidavits from two voters who said their absentee ballots were collected by a woman who told them she would finish filling them out herself.

The Republican won by only 905 votes. It is very possible that the fraud in this case was enough to make a difference.

Maybe the House Democrats should sponsor a bill dealing with voter protection.
House Democrats first Bill.

It's ironic -- given America's status as an "well established and advanced representative democracy" -- that our elections seem to increasingly resemble those of countries with far fewer and weaker democratic traditions.

Of course, our elections have always involved shenanigans. It's just that they seem more widespread these days.

perhaps low turnout is the larger problem. But if you want less fraud, voter Id cards would help possibly
The fraud is not by voters but by government. Voter ID cards keep people from voting and voter fraud is a tiny tiny tiny problem compared with government malfeasance including gerrymandering and voter suppression.

I also found it ironic that it is a Republican that is accused of profiting from voter fraud The claims are almost always the other way around. Could it be that the one time there was massive cheating (at least recently) that it was done by Republicans?

The votes in doubt were not cast at the ballot box but as absentee ballots. In this case voter ID would have made no difference.

In this particular situation it would not help, however it could help to show ID as far as proving who you are in general
And it could lead to greater voter disenfranchisement. But that is not an argument I want to get into tonight. As you say it is not relevant to this situation.

Politicians do seem to be the main source of voter fraud. The problem is they have too much influence over the process and much to gain from the outcome.

That's a key point. Remove the ability for politicians to influence the voting process altogether. Make gerrymandering and the like a thing of the past.
