A week ago they said Assad can stay in charge. Now they flipflop. Is US confused as hell?

  • "It's going to be hard to see a government that's peaceful and stable with Assad," Haley said
  • "If he needs to do more, he will do more," Haley said when asked if Trump would order more strikes
(CNN)US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in an interview airing Sunday on CNN that until Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is out of power, she doesn't see a political solution to the conflict in Syria.

"There's not any sort of option where a political solution is going to happen with Assad at the head of the regime," Haley told "State of the Union" anchor Jake Tapper. "It just -- if you look at his actions, if you look at the situation, it's going to be hard to see a government that's peaceful and stable with Assad."

Ofcourse peace wont come with Assad in charge. He and his trash called govt must leave. Let them go to Russis or Iran and live there in exile.

It's just Trump being Trump. He's like nitroglycerin - too volatile. He snaps from one conclusion to the next - never stopping to check his thinking even if the two are completely incompatible. If Trump was any more dense he'd fall within his Schwarzchild radius and become a black hole.

Will Syria Yield to the Chemical Weapons Ban?

According to intelligence services in three countries Syria flip-flopped on its promise not to use chemical weapons, and then it used chemical weapons. This was a deal breaker according to the current elected people here in US. More information might be available if Syria had a free press.

If that Assad would stop murdering children with poison gas, maybe we wouldn't have to have our politicians change their mind.

I find it interesting that a anyone who is faithful would be okay with the murder of children. Why would any truly faithful person defend Assad? Does the Koran/Bible/Torah teach killing children, or not killing children?

Because they have nuanced opinions and see no feasible alternative that is any improvement. They know that the real enemy of us all, especially children, isn't a particular government. It's the war itself.

Like Israel and Saudi Arabia, Assad has powerful allies and is unlikely to go anywhere without a huge bloody war. This will doubtless leave Syria in a condition like Iraq. Doing the toppling icky dictator thing there lead directly to the rise of ISIS.
I see no reason to think Syria will play out differently. And worse, Saddam Hussein didn't have much functional military force at all, much less the backing of powers like Russia and Iran. The devastation that will be caused by dislodging him through military force will kill far more people than leaving him in power.

No one would want that...
How do you know you haven't been blinded by international trade groups and supposed human rights people making claims.
Oh it's peace you cant even give to these charities unless they say they get to win and whatever agenda they have even if it means striking out dozens.
Sorry, I don't like the care.

Even with Assad gone and out of the picture, the fighting will not end, as there is no common ground.
Even something as comparatively bloodless as a surgical strike killing Assad and his top officials will still be a gift to ISIS of epic proportions. I don't see how anyone could fail to see that. The resulting power vacuum is something they are accustomed to exploiting.
