“And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” Mark 9:43, 44.

Some ask what is the unquenchable fire that scripture speaks about that burns the wicked? Doesn't that mean it will never go out? Of course, it doesn't. To quench means to extinguish or put out. No one will be able to put out the fire of hell. That is the strange fire of God. No one will be able to escape from it by extinguishing it.

We see it also in “But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the Sabbath day, and not bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.” Jeremiah 17:27. But is it still burning today, we need to read and see how the Bible uses the word "quench." It does not mean fire that will never go out. Isaiah says of that fire, "Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before it." Isaiah 47:14. After it has accomplished its work of destruction, that fire will go out.

I think it's a good argument against conditionalism like the view of JW where a person is annihilated if unsaved rather than suffering forever.

I'm not sure how you might extend this to today. In a sense Jesus is the Sabbath.

however for completion the references to Sabbath in Isaiah

    Isaiah 56:2
Blessed is the one who does this— the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.”

    Isaiah 56:4
For this is what the Lord says: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant—

    Isaiah 56:6
And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—

    Isaiah 58:13
“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,

    Isaiah 66:23
From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord.

There is a reformed view that while saved by faith, believers should honor the Sabbath in the form of the Lord's day

The dispensation view is that the Sabbath is fulfilled by faith resting in a finished work of Christ on the cross

Notice it says Sabbath day, Jesus is not a "day" nor is He ever symbolically/metaphorically linked to being a 'day'. In the Bible; He's linked to being "the vine", "the lamb", "the door", "the rock" and many other things but never, not once, a "day". We must stick to the Bible and the Bible only.

    To "rest in Jesus" actually has three meanings;
    1) to rest on the Sabbath day (Heb 4:4&9) or
    2) to be one of the righteous dead (1 Thess. 4:14) for you are literally resting in Jesus' love and protection. Matthew 11:28 - Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Jesus can absolutely give us.
    3) spiritual rest, but we cannot "cease from all work" seven days a week. To do so is not holy, it's not what God asks or His word says.

    Strong's Greek: 762. ἄσβεστος (asbestos) -- unquenched ... Strong's Greek: 4442. πῦρ (pur) -- fire

The phrase "unquenchable fire" also occurs in several places in the New Testament:

"12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."Matthew 3:12 King James Version (KJV)

"17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable."Luke 3:17 King James Version (KJV)

Christ Himself refers to it in that verse in Mark 9:43:
"43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:"Mark 9:43 King James Version (KJV)

Here the "unquenchable fire" is equated with "Gehenna" and also in Mark 9:48, "The fire is not quenched" (ou sbennutai), and is implied in the numerous verses in the New as well as Old Testament:

"22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." Matthew 5:22 King James Version (KJV)

The fact is that eternal fire does not mean a fire that will never go out as we find same expression is used in Jude concerning the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha:

"Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Jude 7 King James Version (KJV).

In this use for the fire of "eternal" "everlasting" many people are basically applying modern definitions ignoring the ancient contextual usage and violating one of the most fundamental rules of interpretation.

Sodom and Gomorrha are not still burning today, yet they burned with "eternal fire," and we are told that it was an example of something, but of what? Lets look and see what the example is:

"And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly." 2 Peter 2:6 King James Version (KJV).

The eternal fire which brought Sodom to ashes is an example of what will finally happen to the wicked or "ungodly". So the fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha will also burn the wicked in the lake of fire. This is a "eternal fire" as like Sodom and Gomorrha they will be no more as it will burn the wicked to ashes.

Scripture is full of references to this fire from God...

"31 And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them." Isaiah 1:31 King James Version (KJV).

"4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings." Jeremiah 4:4 King James Version (KJV).

"47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.48 And all flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched." Ezekiel 20:47-48 King James Version (KJV).

There are many more, so we need to see what is this unquenchable fire, what is its purpose, and how is its work accomplished to a end.

Unquenchable Fire is Tophet, which means Hearth.

    Hearth is the Goddess Vesta...

    In addition...

The Breath of the Lord is Spirit. It is also like a stream of Brimstone.

    Thus...

    Isaiah 30:33
"For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it"

The Lord's Breath is like a stream of Flaming Spirits.

    Seraphim.

The Lake of Fire burns with Flaming Spirits linked to the Hearth and Vesta.

The above verse is speaking of a Biblical form of Karma.

It is better for One to pay their 'Karmic Debt' in this life, rather than the next. In other words, reaping what One has sown.

Since Christians are taught Reincarnation is not Biblical, they can't understand the verse.

    BTW...

The Lake of Fire is merely a Portal.

    It leads to Reincarnation.

    Again, Christians have no idea.

    What verse says that?

Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire...

    Revelation 20:14
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death"

So no... Hell is not 'everlasting'.

    It's all a loop BTW.

The Lake of Fire is also the end of time where the Head meets the Tail of the Ouroboros.

Those thrown in go backwards in the timeline to be born again of corruptible flesh.

That is what the Mystery of Iniquity is.

There is 'no new thing under the sun'... literally.

It's all been done before. All of it.

Hell is a parable for the Womb and Reincarnation.

The 'Lowest Parts of the Earth' (i.e. Hell) is where babies (i.e. you and I) come from...

Jesus descended into the 'Lower Parts of the Earth... that is to say, Mary's Womb...

    What about the 'Pit'?

Is it a place where the wicked will 'burn forever'?

Maybe if Christians would actually read their Bibles, they would realize that the so called Pit is another parable for the Womb...

    Reincarnation.

    God is Love.

    God is Truly merciful.

    All is Just.

God doesn't 'torment people forever'... give me a break.

The Eternal Fire is Vesta, the Hearth and the Eternal Flame of the Brazen Altar..

    Leviticus 6:13
"A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out"

    Douay-Rheims Bible
"This is the perpetual fire which shall never go out on the altar"

The Brazen Altar can be likened to the Lake of Fire.

    Why Vesta?

She manifests as a Flaming Fascinus.

    Why?

The Flaming Fascinus is the Earthly Father that will give birth to the One thrown into the Lake of Fire.

It's all a picture of Reincarnation...

When the Bible says that Satan is our Earthly Father, it's literal...

Tophet (i.e. The Lake of Fire) comes to us from the Old Testament and the Valley of the Son of Hinnom.

Look beyond all of the sacrificing and garbage dumping. There is a much deeper meaning...

    2 Kings 23:10
"And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech"

Those tossed into the Lake of Fire go through it. They go to an entity called Moloch.

Moloch goes all the way back to the Golden Calf. They are both representative of the Womb...

    The 'Sacred Cow'...

In other words, the Womb of Reincarnation.

Tophet is the place 'Seed' goes...

    Leviticus 20:3
"And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name"

Seed goes into the Womb to produce a Child.

    Again... Moloch represents the Womb...
