The Taliban becoming atheists would be good news.

Yeah, because there's certainly no atheist terrorists and fanatics.

But atheists tend to not deny education to women, commit
honor killings, execute infidel, or shoot up cartoonists.

Are you serious? Look up Marxist-Leninism and all the loons who have been inspired by that. I'm just saying that there's nothing about atheism or theism in of themselves that makes someone prone to fanaticism or tolerance. It's other factors that drive people towards one or the other. It's just a group psychology thing.

Specific to the Taliban, their terrorism is driven by their particular religion.
Get rid of that religion, & their primary motive evaporates.
    Alas, that's not an option.

Closing bases does not necessarily mean anyone has actually left the country.

Listen, I'm not trying to drag this thread off topic by bickering over what the Taliban's main motive is. It's just as political as religious. My only point is that them becoming atheists doesn't mean that they'll all of a sudden be peaceful. That notion seems be a bit of anti-theist bigotry. They're still going to want Western and foreign forces to get the hell out.

It's hard to read sarcasm through text unless you make it more obvious. My apologies.

The mirthful post we both refer to didn't claim that atheism
leads to saintly behavior. But in this case, religion is the
problem, ie, their particular version of Islam.
However, science has shown that atheists are prettier.

In this case it does. U.S. troop levels will drop to 2,500 from 8,500.

The Taliban are about as trustworthy as a bunch of Fagin's thieves, and they will be back to their usual nonsense as soon as possible, given that they seem to have such fundamental beliefs and not so subject to alteration. Not sure what would do any good in their country though, but them in any position of power is bad news for all.

It's part of the problem but you need to remember that the Taliban in Afghanistan is an anti-occupation insurgency. They're not going to go away, whatever their religious views are. So going on about religion when it comes to this is missing a big part of the picture.

Good news. Seems the army also wants to go.
Not so in Germany. They said "Yes Sir" and then dragged their feet claiming "logistical problems". They don't want to go and that means they aren't going.
While I don't expect Biden to rescind that order on his first day in office, he'll probably do it on the second.
