Around this time of the year 2 years ago i deleted my facebook account, and never looked back. That have been one of the best choice i have made. The freedom without a facebook account where people constantly messaged me or wanted to tag me to something i never cared for in the first place :)
But i was hooked on that website for some years, and did not see right away what social media do to us.

To much of everything is harmfull to us.
But i realize that RF have been and still is a very good friend to have especially during Covid-19 times, when everything mostly is shut down anyway :)

FB saves your data and you can retrieve your account if you jump through the right hoops.

I also abandoned my account quite a while back. I really didn't want to be in contact with people I knew in high school. I talk with people I want to talk to whenever I want.

I find that odd, to tell you honestly. On my Facebook, I have only good things like things on Running, inspirational quotes, and things like that. Nothing negative. I hid many of my family's posts because they have sad or negative things once in a blue moon, but nothing criminal.

How did you come across negative things on Facebook?

It become almost like an addiction to check messages, to see if i had new friends requests and so on. and it was not much interesting topics people was talking about. So in a way not negative but time consuming and it become really boring.

the only "family" i have left is my Ex Girlfriend (the norwegian one) So i have no reason to be on facebook because of any family connection either

Yes i spend to much time in RF too. and thinking of reducing it, but not leaving :)

I left maybe 8 years ago? I wasn't on for long; maybe a little over a year. I logged in one day and saw stuff I didn't want to see, and thought "....this is not a requirement. I do not have to log in here." So I stopped. I formally deleted my account when someone tried to hack it, but hadn't been logged in for a long time. And, like @Polymath257 said, I didn't really want to be in contact with everyone I'd ever known.

Its because I know negative people. I could friend remove them, but then they get mad. I've heard there's a feature you can block people's stuff now, but I find people expected me to check all their posts and then I'd have to explain that I'd blocked them.

That was another reason... I was tired of people getting mad at me because I didn't see their post or respond to this or that... I only logged in once or twice a week, and for a limited time. I didn't see, or want to see, everything. Not having an account got me out of those arguments, though I hear some people consider me rude for my refusal to have FB.

I keep telling myself I need to get off RF. I dropped Quora yesterday. Facebook I just check for running updates and recipes. I made egg muffins last week. It was an interesting treat. But, yeah, the checking is addicting. If I can figure what to do in my free time, I'd drop them off. Boredom and I'm always online cause of school anyhow. I did use ad blockers for my phone and did block RF for awhile back when.

That is a good next step. Also, I notice you only post good inspirational posts on RF. So, maybe not so much of an addiction here just people to talk to about spiritual stuff and opinions on such. Unfortunately, facebook isn't set up for that unless you just create a group.

RF to me is where i speak about spiritual/religious topics and about personal growth. that is true, and on other social media that is more or less impossible (it was 2 years ago anyway)
I think RF is special because there is likeminded people here who can understand and have interest in learning, even people here disagree about many things we keep it mostly civilized :)

I think it all depends on how you set yourself up on FB. I've only been on a short while but I know I'll not get addicted or inundated with stuff I don't want to see because I've simply joined three groups that are specific and limited in their remit.

Yes, although I created the account some 12 years ago when my aunt pushed me to create one, and then I hardly logged in. Very rarely. I did the same with an unused WhatsApp - just went in and deleted the whole thing one day.

Not because of anything negative - all sweet people. Just because I am a recluse and cannot handle all the activity. Not that I am obliged to respond to the activity either... but some may see that as indifference which it is.
