"Trump nominates William Barr to be his next attorney general"

Whatever you want me to be.
President Donald Trump has decided to nominate former Attorney General William Barr to be the next permanent head of the Justice Department, the President told reporters Friday. [..] Barr previously worked at the CIA in the 1970s and served in several leadership roles at the Justice Department serving under President George H.W. Bush. He ultimately served as attorney general from 1991 through 1993. He subsequently served in several executive and leadership positions at corporations, including Verizon Communications. Barr served as a board member on CNN's parent company, Time Warner, Inc., (now Warner Media) from 2009 until 2018.

What do you think? Seems like a step up from Whitaker, but I'll have to wait and get more details before drawing an opinion.

I expect the anti-swampsters to take no issue with this swamp choice. Just like Kavanaugh. Only because Donald supports it.
Let's talk about that Fox pundit that has zero experience working in the UN. Can't wait for that confirmation hearing.

Given Trump's dismal record concerning such decisions I hope this guy is thoroughly vetted.

I predict controversy.
I am sure your predicting skills are superb, but in this case, my dog could predict controversy.

The 24/7 oppo researchers are digging for dirt on this man, any kind of dirt to hang on him.

Spartacus and the others of his rebellion against decency will come to the hearings prepared with fans and bags of excrement to blow throughout the hearing room.

The Buddha, nominated by Trump, would be ripped to shreds by this bunch.

The irony is that all the little tempests in the cracked little teapots mean nothing, the votes are there for confirmation.

I have my doubts the Trump actually picked this guy. He seems like a party pick to me rather than an actual Trump pick.

Donald doesn't pick anyone, the establishment gives their recommendations then sells the pick to Donald. Conservatives don't run the republican party, the establishment GOP does. The conservative base are just used for votes......and selling them things they don't need at 4x the normal price.

$40!

Senator Obama had virtually no experience in government either. Many would say he worked out quite well.

Removing Jeff and placing Whitaker as acting AG was a misstep by Trump. Reps need the Mueller probe to seem legitimate or else it will never go away. So this seems like a play to correct that mistake.

Senator Obama was a Senator and constitutional scholar. He was also a community organizer which helped develop leadership skills.
Donald can't even run a casino for profit. Can't get a loan in the US and has failed miserably at every avenue in life he's taken. He's a silver spooned man-child that has been given everything in life to him.
Donald is a moron for sure, which explains his lack of leadership skills.

Yes. And from what I've seen, Barr is a good choice. But I would want to create a pool about when Trump will first publicly attack him.

I am personally hoping we will see a more moderate Republican party over the next two years. I think they know they are on thin ice. Their voting based is mainly white America, but they lost a significant amount of the white female votes this voting cycle, due to various reasons. So they need to work on regaining lost trust or lose the Senate in 2020. I am hoping this position will encourage them to be more open to compromise.

Constitutional scholar ? Where ? How many scholarly papers and books has he written on Constitutional law ? A community organizer ? Dime a dozen. I am still trying to figure out where all of the 54 states are that he said we have.

No one ever said he was a geography scholar.

My thoughts exactly. Our fellow poster forgot to mention he wasn't a terribly highly regarded "constitutional scholar" or that he only served 2 years as a senator. I too got a good laugh out of the community organizer line. (That is definitely my go to spot when I am looking for new talent. LOL.)

Please remain on topic.
Not just a good idea... it's in the rules. :)
