Trickster God

Lib Democrat/Agnostic/Epicurean-ish/Buddhist-ish

Because in Kemetic cosmology anyway, demons are servants of the gods. The gods have authority over demons. Also, not all demons are good. Demons are astral beings who are not very different from human beings in their nature.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Raven!

Here's a story: Raven and The First Men

That is an amazing read and it fits the bill. :)

Boethiah: I don't know about a Trickster God who created the world, but for an interesting look at the trickster archetype in general, perhaps take a look at Discordianism.

A Discordian is required to, the first Friday after his illumination, Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Dog; this Devotive Ceremony to Remonstrate against the popular Paganisms of the Day: of Roman Catholic Christendom (no meat on Friday), of Judaism (no meat of Pork), of Hindic Peoples (no meat of Beef), of Buddhists (no meat of animal), and of Discordians (no Hot Dog Buns).

Fair enough. "Demon" obviously has different connotations with each of us ;)

Not all who practice Asatru accept the myth of Loki being chained up. A book I read of Norse mythology said the myth is of late Christian origin, and that most scholars in Norse myth reject it as relevant to Norse belief.

Well even so, not many who practice Asatru, if any at all, have Loki as their main God. There may be cults or whatever, but Loki is generally looked down upon, as far as I knew.

it is not that god is a trickster but sinners do not admit to their own past deceptiveness and that.....
given more knowledge they are more likely than not to abuse the knowledge
and not admit to their own self deception and seeking self glory
rather than recognizing the true source of all life
and how to properly use knowledge
so wanting to blame it on god being tricky
is not really what true religions should be about...
but indeed the glory of god is concealed
but more as a protection against one's own deceptive use of knowledge
for artifcial self justification
rather than finding true justification of self
and recognizing more that any trickster god as a way of understanding
it is seeing how one refused to recognize all the mercy and grace that god provides...

Pro 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Pro 25:3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Pro 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
Pro 25:5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Pro 25:6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Pro 25:7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
Pro 25:8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

Not sure if this belongs here, but I'm seeking an answer so :D

Is there a religion that views God as a mischievous trickster? A God who created the universe for his/her own amusement or plays games with mortals, etc? Is there a religion where this type of God is major in their pantheon?

Thanks!

Have you seen a movie called...'The Mask'?...starring Jim Carrey

It's a laugh.
