Transgender People and Sports, what should we do?

A current hot topic whithig the world of sports is “what should we do with transgender people”…….should a trans men participate as a women as or as men?

Possible solutions

1) People should participate according to their biological sex ,it doesn’t matter if you perceive yourself as a woman, if you have a testicles and a penis you should participate against other men

2) ´people should participate based on their gender, If you feel like a woman you should participate with other woman even if you have a penis….

3) Make a separate category where trans compete against each other

4) Accept the fact that sports are usually organized by private companies so simply allow them to impose their own rules, if you don’t like them then do not support those sports…. In other words we (society) have not a say….. Allow private companies to do what they what

5) Remove the binary nature of sports, no more women and men competing in separate categories, they all play against each other, in some sports woman would be favored, in other sports men would be favored,

6) More divisions: ignore sex and gender, and make more divisions divide athletes by amount of hormones, muscular mass, weight etc. or any other metric relevant for that particular sport, so regardless if you are men or women you will play against people with say a similar muscular mass than you…. … for example if a man a trans a and woman have similar muscular mass, they could participate in the same category in sports where muscular mass is relevant. … if anyone has more muscular mass than the other the he/she can´t compete in that categorty

7 some other solution?

In my opinion all these solutions have advantages and disadvantages, just wondering if you have thought about this topic and what solution would you propose?

It's not a perfect solution, but I might go with this.

One potential issue with that is that cis men are actually stronger than trans women who have been on hormones for some time. Trans women who have been on hormones for some time, are still stronger and more athletic than cis women, but not as strong as cis men.

The variables are many, and specific to each sport. So there isn't going to be any one easy solution. And unfortunately, if significant money is involved, common sense will probably lose out to greed. I expect it'll take many years to finally work it all out appropriately.

Not to sound negative, but while it's a good choice, one potential issue is what we go by to determine, as a 150 pound man is stronger than a 150 pound woman.
It could depend on the sport. Men tend to have a higher percentage of upper body strength versus lower body strength.

Part of the problem is that some CIS women have higher testosterone levels so how do people determine what's fair in that case.

And while strength based competition is clear when it comes to trans people, it might not be true for sports where flexibility is important.

I don't have an answer but it's a tough issue.

-The Girls’ / Women’s Divisions are exclusively for non- transgender females

-The Boys’ / Men’s Divisions are open to anyone who proves themself an asset to their sport.

That’s really the only solution. Trans people can either compete with the men (as some women have) or form their own leagues where there are enough of them.

Otherwise female sports are ruined. Females’ records are erased by males, females are robbed of scholarships and opportunities, and contact sports become far more dangerous for females to compete in.

This is my preference.

Just do away with men's and women's sports. It's all sport.

I know it's not yours, but this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard.

It's basically impossible to implement, especially below elite level, as we can only estimate muscle mass and sports categories need precision.

In addition, it would mean the end of elite women's sport. Look at weightlifting records, men outlift women 20+kg heavier than them.

It also ruins many sports, who wants to see the under 50kg world cup, followed by the under 60kg world cup, followed by the under 70kg world cup?

It's the kind of idea that someone who has never played, watched or thought about sport would come up with.

This is my preference.

Just do away with men's and women's sports. It's all sport.

Don't you think it would be a bad idea to basically end women's elite sport in most sports?

"Sorry, girls, you'll never be good enough. Just watch the men play, eh?"

Over the past decade, many women's sports have been growing in popularity and deservedly getting more recognition, why ruin this positive trend?

Trans men are part of the diversity of men; trans women are part of the diversity of women.

If a trans athlete has a performance advantage in a particular sport, this is no different from the cis athletes who are born extra tall, or generate less lactic acid than other athletes.

In sports where genders compete separately, trans people should compete with their gender.

I think it should depend on whether they have balls or not. Transgender women can compete fairly against cis-women in badminton or darts, for example, since neither have balls, but not so much in football or basketball.

How is it doing away with women's sports?

I meant get rid of seperate sexed sports. And have everyone play coed. Is that really that big of a deal?

This gets it right, for the 2 sports involved: Women’s rugby union and rugby league block transgender players

Restrict to sex assigned at birth, for those sports where physical strength gives a clear advantage.

Perhaps one should play with ponds of muscular mass or something like that

The problem that I see is that it sounds too complicated imagine a school with low bounget trying to all those tests and stuff just to put athletes in the correct category
