    Sanctus Infernus!

I am Adramelek and am new to this forum. I have been a practicing Sorcerer/Satanist for about 20 years now. I have been a member of quite a few LHP groups over the years, namely, the Temple of Set and the Church of Lucifer. The later seemed to cult like for me, however, the ToS showed a lot of potential though there seemed to be a lot petty infighting between some of it's most promenant members, and I myself was blasted for vocalizing my concerns as to the direction this group was going down and I received a lot of flack and hateful responces to my critizisim. It is a Magicians right to complain, after all I was paying $85.00 annually to renew my membership. That's a pretty good chunk of change without knowing where and to whom this money to was to.

In my experience, a lot of leaders of so called LHP groups use there fees, ranging from $200.00, $100.00, to $85.00 for personal income, this isn't right, and until I am proven wrong I have no part of any organized LHP group at this time. In some orgs you send them $200.00 and all you get back is a certificate of membership and a membership card and that's it?:sarcastic

As a life long follower of the Left-Hand Path, for me there is no other way. I am a follower of what I term Transcendental Satanism which embraces the Magical philosophies of Theistic Satanism, Setianism, and to some degree LaVeyian Satanism, as well as many other aspects of the Dark Arts. I and another Magical coleague are also in the process of formulating some ideas to form a group sometime in the future which will be an Initiatory instituion that will embrace all aspects of the Black Arts. This may take some time, a couple of years, but we are determined to bring an alternative to those who truly seek to embrace and explore their inner Magical Selves and the LHP.

In closing, dont get me wrong, I have the uttmost respect for the ToS and the CoS, they have made great strides in bringing Luciferian understanding to the LHP. I and others just feel there needs to be an alternative for those who in there Dark Hearts seek the Mysteries in the Black Arts.

    Ave Infernus!

I was wondering, are there any CoS members or ToS members who feel their membership fees are well spent within these groups? As for the ToS, $85.00 a year perhaps seems reasonable, do you feel you are getting your monies worth?

CoS members, do you feel you are getting your monies worth as the CoS seems to have raised their membership fee from $100,00 to $200.00? Again, by no means am I criticizing these groups. To me, they seem to be the most lagetamite LHP Initiatory organizations in existence so far. As a former initiate of the ToS I learned a lot from this group. I found it's membership to be extremely intelligent and very in tune to Black Magic and the Powers of Darkness.

Another thing that appeals to me about the Temple of Set is that it tends to look upon the Lord of Darkness as a very real intelligent form of Life within the universe whose essence indwells within man which champions and inspires man's quest for self-actualization and deification which to me is the primary premise of the LHP.:bat:

I have experienced much over the years as a practicing Sorcerer/Sananist and I am personally convinced that the Dark Lord is a very real Life Form within and without mankind. I am sure there are others in the Church of Satan who also feel the same way.

    Forever in the Black Flame!

    Greetings

Personally, if I had to pay a cent for my religion I would be unhappy. I'm very happy practising my beliefs (which seem to differ from yours) and I do so for free. Why do you feel it necessary to pay somebody you don't know for that right?

Welcome to RF by the way. I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say on the topic of religion in the near future :)

Thanks for the welcome GhK. Like you, personally I prefer to practice my Satanism free of charge. At this time, I really see no need in joining an organization which requires a $200.00 downpayment when in return you basically get nothing. I have much better use for my hard earned dollars. Hell, $200.00 would make a good down payment for a new guitar. Satanism and the Dark Arts are better practiced for free - the freedom of mind and will is what is important to me.

I was wondering, what are your primary views on Satanism and the Left-Hand Path, if you don't mind my asking?

    Forever in the Black Flame!

Right. I agree. I feel that the LHP and particularly satanism as a philosophy is about freedom. Anton LaVey always advocated Crowley's creed, 'Do as thou wilt'. I think that, not only should a satanist be free to do what he or she wants, they should be free from the financial constraints that inclusion in an organisation such as the CoS brings with it. I was initially confused by the contradiction in satanism, whereby they seemed to despise the idea of a group religion and yet created several seeminly large organisations revolved around the idea... (LaVey himself advocated individualism when practicing satanism). The high ranking members and leaders of these organisations have no problems with telling you that it is purely an organisation, and for the purposes of financial reward for themselves, and people STILL seem to want to pay to join. I... I don't know, i'm a little confused by it myself :p

Sure. I used to be what I like to term colloquially as a 'Full-on Satanist'. By that I mean that it was the major system of belief. I followed The Satanic Bible as if it were the rules by which to live my life.

Nowadays, Satanism is still a major part of my life. However, I follow my own path now, not LaVey's. His path worked for him, and the philosophy makes sense to me, but a lot of his beliefs are not my own.

As for the LHP, I am still an LHP practitioner. I used to follow a RHP (I was a Christian), but that ended up... Well... Let's just say it didn't work out for me. My path is almost completely different from both christianity and satanism, but elements from the latter tend to remain.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Dear GhK:

I too practice my own "Satanism", personally I prefer to refer to myself as a Sorcerer or follower of the Left-Hand Path. Satanism in itself (especially LaVeyian Satanism) is a limited religion in that it mainly focuses on the "carnal" aspect of man. Sure we're all animals or creatures of the Earth, however, I also think and am convinced we also have a metaphysical aspect to us as well. I call this the "Dark Gift", I also think there are other creatures of the Earth who also possess this unique quality. To me it is what makes us aware of our selves and the Powers of Darkness and enables us to utilize these Powers, and in so doing we gain the ability to become more than the sum of our parts.

To me Magic is the Act of Creation. As a musician, when I create or compose a piece of music it is an Act of Magic, the bringing into being of something within the subjective universe and incorporating it into the fabric of the objective universe or real world. This, of course, is also known as Greater Black Magic.

You see, to me Satan, Lucifer, Set, Prometheus, the Prince of Darkness, or by whatever name He/It is called is a very real entity within the universe. To me, His essence, called by some the "Black Flame", indwells within mankind and has become a part of our nature, it has become infused within our DNA and is what distinguishes us. Don't get me wrong, I don't worship the Dark One, but rather I honor Him as the great liberator and benefactor of humanity as that which champions and inspires man's quest for self-actualization and deification.

You spoke of the Crowleyian philosophy of Thelema "Do What Thou Wilt, Shall Be The Whole of the Law". To me this means that we each have deep within us our own individual Truth or True Will=Thelema. To me part of the great work of life is to uncover this inner Truth and to become it. My music is my Thelema, it took me a while to find it, but eventually I did, and like I said, when I compose a piece of music I am not just Creating but am also actualizing the Truth of my own being. Magic, therefore, to me is a way of life and is one of the ways I not only honor myself but also the Prince of Darkness.:dragon:

I was not fully me until I finally embraced my own darker essence within.

I completely relate to everything you said here about music and magick.
    For me they are inseprable.

I could not find the fullness of my own musical direction
until I found the dark flame within.
After many years of playing professionally for "this thing or that"...
I have finally found my own inner voice.
And the darker release is so quenching....

    Dear UltraViolet:

I just heard some of your piano music. You are very good, have you been classically trained?

I also feel that music can be transformed into musical/magical sigils. I was wondering what your thoughts were in this area.

    Adramelek...

Thank you. My primary studies were in the area of Jazz & improvisation,
but I did play classically first in HighSchool,
and then spent two years studying classical college music theory...
so I can largely hear my way through classical stylistic technique as well
    when I write and improvize.

Lately I've been compelled to use of altered scales...
    eastern/egyptian sounding alterations
and altered jazz scales and poly tonalities
but with/over more "accessable" gothic sounding chordal patterns.

The really long improv at the top was free form based on a sigil
and the themes that sigil inspired in me.

The pagan poetry of the Doors and LedZeppelin
has also been inspiring me deeply as of late.
    (back to my roots)

I love the way Emilie Autumn fuses her classical background
    with more modern musical forms.
Her expressions of darkness are so caustic and filled with dark humor and sarcasm as well.
    I just love her.

When I have done more with musical sigils...
I'd love to continue the conversation.

    ~Vi~

Honestly none of the dues you mentioned seem to be a burden. My college fraternity dues are triple that amount per semester. Academic organizations are also much more in cost, and social participation is usually less than the organizations you listed usually consisting of getting some publications bi-monthly and maybe going to a convention once a year. Any real organization in this modern age has plenty of costs to keep up with in order to remain functioning, and that's where the dues mostly go.

If your finances aren't within the arena where you can view these costs nonchalantly, you have more important concerns to improve in your life instead of stacking up points in your mastery of the Dork Arts.

Nothing is more ironic than a magician living in poverty or complaining about their financial struggle.

Actually I am quite comfortable with my financial situation, it could be better, but I am working on that. Also there is no reason to degrade my personal practices as the "Dork Arts", it only reflects badly on you.

$200.00 to join some Satanic group is simpy rediculious. However, it would make a good side living for someone.

If you can't have a civil discourse with me then don't contact me again.

Or more ridiculous than a magician paying $200 a year to have a small card that has no purpose other than to prove that you just wasted $200.

    Ironic indeed.

If I lived NEAR a Pylon, I'd seriously consider joining the ToS.
The $80 would be well worth the Setian companionship.

But I've come to the conclusion I just can't see the point otherwise.

    Dear UltraViolet:

I was I member of the ToS for a while. I made many friends however after have some coversations with a member of the Priesthood who was leaving the ToS - there is a lot infighting amongst the temple hierarchy which is kept secret from members of lower degrees. I was a member of the ToS back in the 1990's and it has changed quite a but since then. It's not the group it used to be, it seems to be falling victim to what happen to the CoS back in the 1975 when Anton LaVey decided he would sell the Priesthood - give him a $1000 and he'll make you a priest.

Concerning the ToS there are a lot of senior members who are quite arrogant and pretend to be something that their not. I hope I'm wrong. If the ToS doesn't get it's act together I see it as becoming nothing more than another CoS or worse yet they will become non-existent. So in short the heirarchy of the ToS in is big trouble. But even still, as far as I am concerned the ToS is still the only lagit LHP Church in existence so far - enter at your own risk.

The time will come when another LHP group will come along who will stay true to the Principles of the LHP. Until that day comes, I am contect with being a solitary Sorcerer/Satanist

Not you. My response was direct at the theme in general.

Most of the dues go towards maintainance issues. The CoS is a legal entity. Gilmore is living in an apartment in NY last I checked, not a mansion. The same can be extended to the ToS I imagine.

I'm not an advocate for any of the two groups, just correcting what I see as an overlooking of the financial element in the bigger picture.

You're new, so I don't know who you are,
but if you're trolling the Satanic directory get out.

Do it on your own or a moderator will escort you.
    Just a friendly warning.
If you are in fact a satanist

Perhaps it would be worth posting a thread about the Temple of Daeva in the Luciferianism DIR? I imagine several people here would be interested in hearing about it, if not necessarily joining :)

Back on topic though, Adramelek, having just read your posts I think we have roughly the same opinion of most LHP organisations. Considering all the warnings LaVey provides in TSB about not allowing yourself to be tricked and decieved, it seems utterly bizzare that so many people are willing to pay a great deal of money for (in my opinion) very little.

    Greetings Adremelek

What degree did you hold in the Temple? What did you offer as a solution to the direction of the group as you imply you were in possession of? In my 8 years in the Temple I have never seen anyone "blasted" for appropriate behavior as stated in the protocol of the Temple, and especially not hateful responses which would bring both parties under scrutiny. $85 is a ridiculously low amount of dues for Temple affiliation compared to the information and environment that is available to its Initiates, your complaint lacks integrity and substance.

[/quote]In closing, dont get me wrong, I have the uttmost respect for the ToS and the CoS, they have made great strides in bringing Luciferian understanding to the LHP. Your first paragraph then makes no sense, a) what someone else does with their initiation is their business and should not affect your own pursuit unless you like gossip or for whatever reason others Initiation is important to scrutinize, a pass time I have little to no respect or use for. b) If you were receiving hateful responses then all you needed to do was contact a Priest and it would be dealt with seriously and immediately, unless of course one or the other involved lacked the ability to reason articulately. From your post it seems you are simply venting the same pettiness you accuse others of. True Black Magicians take responsibility, as any LHP magician must or end up in the pit called Because, for the state of their being at any given time- you are where you are because _you_ put yourself there.
Best of luck with your alternative venture.
