It really is sad. There are just so many jobs here, so many opportunities, so much money, and such vast wealth, yet at the same time staggering and abysmal poverty. I still remember how shocked I was seeing the poorest parts of Oildale for the first time, and knowing that it was real I was seeing that here in America, in an area where just a few miles away are million dollar mansions, lavish country clubs, and numerous millionaires living in certain parts of town (I've met several of them). Stunning is the only appropriate way to begin describing the massive wealth disparity here.
