OK, I will kick this off - hopefully we can get an idea as to what people like the most in any particular genre. Not too strict since time-zones are involved. :D

Its' FOLK today (Wednesday 13th May) - and I'm glad I just found these two saucy albums (which I have) - well worth a listen I would propose.

I love folk music. One of my favorites is Steeleye Span.

    Yeah, I'm old. :O)

I also like The Mountain Goats.

Here is a song from my one and only folk album: The Unthanks. Not my biggest genre

Steeleye Span was one of the bands that would rock me to sleep as a babe

Plenty of good stuff from the late 1960s/early 1970s - for oldies and all: :D

Devendra Banhart although not typically regarded as a folk singer exclusively, definitely made some really awesome songs that fit the folk genre beautifully with deep philosophical undertones.

I'm not one to smack anyone for sticking stuff in the wrong genre, even if I knew such. :D

Folk? She certainly deserves more recognition than she seems to have gotten. Lovely voice.

I was kind of thinking of posting some folk stuff I did, but I have to rework it.. I'm working on some american folk song variants that apparently no one uploaded to youtube yet.. it's from a sizable book from the beginning of the last century... it seems like it's important that I try to get it right.. a very frustrating and time consuming project, but potentially rewarding, as I would actually make history on some level just by recording the catalog.. I have all the instruments I'd need though, both real and virtual.. and the recording software.. It's just a matter of turning my life into a serious workhorse.. basically I should cease doing everything else in my free time and just do that.. At some point here soon, I have to just plunge into it.. I've been delaying too long, but I have some sense that it will be a gargantuan amount of work

Lyrically? It's pretty much saying the world is terrible but try and be happy. Most Folk Punkers tend to be atheists.

A more "mainstream" folk punk group. I need to see them again.
