Tijuana Residents Protest Migrants OUT! OUT! or How Will The Left Spin This One?

Stanyon

WWMRD?
Some residents of Tijuana are protesting the presence of the immigrant caravan and want them out, when it was Trump and others it was said to be racism and xenophobia- what is it now?

There appear to be two logical errors in your reasoning here, Stanyon.

First, you seem to be assuming that the Tijuana resident's rejection of the migrants cannot be motivated by xenophobia. In fact, the migrants are foreigners to them, and xenophobia is fear of foreigners.

The second error in your reasoning is you seem to be assuming the left is wrong to ascribe Trump's animosity to them to racism (among other things) because the Tijuana residents are of the same general ethnicity as the migrants. But it is possible that the Tijuana residents have reasons other than racism for their animosity. Xenophobia for instance. Or perhaps they are concerned about the migrants for other reasons having nothing to do with racism.

At any rate, there is no reason why the left should be embarrassed by the Tijuana residents' response to the migrants, despite how reprehensible their response is.

Their response seems to be rooted in the fact that they just don't have the resources to deal with an influx of that many people at once which is understandable. Neither does the U.S., we are struggling as it is with the masses of California fire victims. The same thing happened with the mass immigration in Greece, Italy, Germany etc. They were not prepared or capable of dealing with that many at once. The left should be embarrassed about making it about race and xenophobia which it never was.

The only way we'll ever stop mass migration is to pump aid into the countries that the migrants are coming from.
Make their countries prosperous then these migrants won't want to leave.

You're right, Stanyon. The US simply does not have the resources to adsorb 2,000 migrants from Central America. It's best we use that money to adsorb 2,000 migrants from Europe.

You didn't include a link in your OP, but I found one: Tijuana protesters chant 'Out!' at migrants camped in city

Hundreds of Tijuana residents congregated around a monument in an affluent section of the city south of California on Sunday to protest the thousands of Central American migrants who have arrived via caravan in hopes of a new life in the U.S.

Tensions have built as nearly 3,000 migrants from the caravan poured into Tijuana in recent days after more than a month on the road, and with many more months ahead of them while they seek asylum. The federal government estimates the number of migrants could soon swell to 10,000.

U.S. border inspectors are processing only about 100 asylum claims a day at Tijuana's main crossing to San Diego.

On Sunday, displeased Tijuana residents waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted "Out! Out!" in front of a statue of the Aztec ruler Cuauhtemoc, 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from the U.S. border. They accused the migrants of being messy, ungrateful and a danger to Tijuana. They also complained about how the caravan forced its way into Mexico, calling it an "invasion." And they voiced worries that their taxes might be spent to care for the group.

"We don't want them in Tijuana," protesters shouted.

But some of the residents of Tijuana gathered in support of the migrants:

A block away, fewer than a dozen Tijuana residents stood with signs of support for the migrants. Keyla Zamarron, a 38-year-old teacher, said the protesters don't represent her way of thinking as she held a sign saying: Childhood has no borders.

The Honduran ambassador to Mexico has said that many have returned to Honduras and wants the rest to return:

Alden Rivera, the Honduran ambassador in Mexico, told the AP on Saturday that 1,800 Hondurans have returned to their country since the caravan first set out on Oct. 13, and that he hopes more will make that decision. "We want them to return to Honduras," said Rivera.

The migrants apparently got a much warmer reception in southern Mexico, where they given hot food, campsites, and even live music. But in Tijuana, the reception has been cold.

And of course, the main part of the reason why these caravans are coming in the first place is hinted at in the article:

Honduras has a murder rate of 43 per 100,000 residents, similar to U.S. cities like New Orleans and Detroit. In addition to violence, migrants in the caravan have mentioned poor economic prospects as a motivator for their departures. Per capita income hovers around $120 a month in Honduras, where the World Bank says two out of three people live in poverty.

The solution should be obvious. This is what I would propose:

1. Peaceably form a confederation with Mexico and Central America
2. Raise the minimum wage for all territories (including the U.S.) to at least 2.5x higher than it currently is
3. Implement a crash program to improve and update the infrastructure and modernize all territories to first world standards (including the U.S., which has also lagged behind in this area)
4. Healthcare, education, and housing will be as nearly free as possible
5. Absolute zero tolerance on crime and corruption; gangs and cartels will be outlawed (with a combined population of about 482 million, we can form a strong national defense force and a formidable internal security force which can crush any criminals and other enemies of the confederation)

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head, but I would envision a unified America, a peaceful, plentiful, safe society with an educated, enlightened populace and a shining example for the rest of the world to follow. We may eventually have to bring in Canada, South America, and the Caribbean islands so that the entire Western Hemisphere is under a single flag.

After all, we in the Western Hemisphere share much in common, largely due to the ways in which our nations became independent in the first place. All of our governments were formed and grew out of European colonial governments mostly under revolutionary circumstances. While we all speak languages which originated in Europe, the fact is, our languages and cultures are not European. We are all Americans, from Barrow, Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego. We would be a unified society, neutral but quite powerful and in a far better position than the chaotic squabbling which characterizes the Eastern Hemisphere.

Nothing that the people of Tijuana do or say makes Trump no longer a racist or xenophobe, labels derived from dozens of actions and comments.

Great well thought out post.

I have advocated for an united western hemisphere for some time as have others that actually have a voice. I am an unabashed isolationist. The degree of isolation would depend on how insane the rest of the world became. An 100% insane, irrational head chopping rest of the world would result of the United west being as close to 100% isolated as possible. Done right the United west could be nearly or totally 100% independent in food energy and other needs including supporting free people, a paradise so to speak. Until the world became a quagmire of insanity there was hope everything could be sorted out and a semblance of the old system being restored. Personally I feel that time has come and went. I really fear not a revolution but another world war, more horrific than all the past wars combined. With all the thermonuclear enabled nations this will probably be the last war for a thousand years. Maybe going back to a world 'monarchy' of sorts, with the united west being the castle on the hill, and with a bill of rights in place to guide it. Hopefully something like that could be a salvation for human kind. Unless greed seizes the new 'monarchy' as well.

Literally Hitler-got it!

Note. By 'the left' I am referencing the progressive liberal leftist, not thee common and more numerous normal folk that happens to be a dem.

There are Hitlers around today and its not the USA. Antisemitism is starting to rage but instead of Jews per se' Israel is the main proxy jew. Of course that fact is hidden by the lefts media propaganda machine. Look around man, the rumblings etc is so scary similar to 1930's Germany! Leading the demonic charge is the party of the new hate complete with a superb propaganda machine that can tell us day is night and we believe it. Buckle up the day of reckoning has been moved forward with Israel loving Trump in office but as soon as a Israel hating democrat or other is installed in office, beware, the doomsday clock will start ticking again.

2,000 for now, if you let one in the caravans won't stop since it worked the first time. What is the cut-off? We saw how mass immigration worked in Europe, Germany for example welcomed them with open arms and they are now paying them to leave.

We do have the resources to absorb them. We just have to free some of it from the 1% into the rest of our hands in order for us to help our neighbors in their times of need. How many private jets does one really need to be happy anyway?

Yes, there are fascistic and nationalist rumblings in the air in America and elsewhere, but they aren't coming from the left. It's the left that stood up to creeping fascism at Charlottesville's Unite The Right tiki torch rally.

Some residents

The operative word in your post but not the title is "some". And the linked article said "hundreds". What very tiny percentage is that and how did it get to be an absolute. Of course the answer is that it confirms your bias.

Neither does the U.S

Poor third world, poverty stricken US. Maybe we need Botswana to send us foreign aid.

You might be too young, I don't know, but that's classic "domino theory" politics. https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/domino-theory

I like your signature Strive to look for the good in everyone. So what's the good in the refugee caravan and people on the left in the US of A?
