Except she has not. She got in the same sort of trouble when she wanted to put peoples lives in danger in the year preceding this. I linked an article and quoted from it rather extensively. Would you let a rapist go at her age? What she did was almost as bad. Some would say that it was worse. Would you let a rapist go that had a previous conviction of unwanted groping?

Consider the possibility that your friend's surgeon may be downplaying his role in the putsch.

It's a common thing for guilty people to proclaim their innocence.

A rapist shouldn’t be let go. Yet, how many rapists, child molesters, or other violent criminals ARE let go to repeat such crimes or worse again? From the accounts I’ve read; way too many.

Then neither should she just skate. She was lucky. She got a very very lenient sentence.

Yes, human governments do have the ability to meet out the punishments they deem appropriate. Just seems those sentences/punishments should take all circumstances into consideration and be consistent across the board, which doesn’t seem to be the case with the justice system now.

You may think the Creator lacks ability, but I’m not under any impression the Ruler of the universe lacks any ability whatsoever. His justice is balanced with mercy and patience, since each person’s eternal destiny is at stake.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
    2 Peter 3:9

I know. Look how many women accused Trump's of sexual assault and people still voted for him. He even bragged about sexual assault on a recording and conservatives, many Christian, didn't care. Your thought?

Not at all. There’s no personality change at all, if you know how to read and comprehend the scriptures.

Yeah, that whole frustration with humans thing by Yahweh and his best solution was to flood the planet, killing most humans. Not exactly patient and merciful, is it?

I would say that the opposite is true. Many Christians cannot properly read their own Bible.

I don’t like Trump. I don’t know why many professed Christians didn’t care. It could be because there are lots of religious Christians who are just conservative patriots, but not born again believers. Other than that, there are likely a lot of Christians who voted for Trump only because they agreed with some of his policies and pro- life or pro- America stances, in spite of his sinful lifestyle. I can’t speak for all Christians. Too many definitely looked at Trump as a savior. He is not my hero or savior. I have one Savior; Jesus.

In the US the penal system is based upon double standards.
Zero principle of proportionality and progressivity of the penalty. Within the same state.

Within the same state a robber can be sentenced to 22 year detention.
So can a first degree murderer.
As if robbery= first degree murder

Everything depends on the judge's whims.

You can have your opinion and probably many professed Christians can’t properly read the scriptures, but those who have been born again to new life in Christ have their minds renewed and are led by the Holy Spirit to understand.

But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:14

But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
    2 Corinthians 4:3-4

So it's patriotic to vote for a guy with a long list of sexual assaults? And many born again Christians DID vote for Trump. What is going on with Christians?

They still nominated him despite there being similar candidates without the ethical failings. There is something about Trump's lack of ethics that attracted conservative Christians. Any explanation for that?

The opposite is true. The self proclaimed "born again" usually totally mess up what the Bible means. The problem is that when you say all of it has to be literally true then you claim that God is an incompetent narcissistic malign deity. You cannot excuse how he screwed up the creation, or the flood, or the Exodus. Or the various acts of genocide afterwards.

But luckily for Christians we know that almost all of those events never happened. So your God may not be as evil and incompetent as the Bible makes him out to be.

    Hmm.

If the bible is any guide, God's mercy is the exception, not the rule. I've never understood, for instance, why it was necessary for Jesus to be crucified before God was prepared to forgive sins. One snap of those omnipotent fingers and it could all have been accomplished without any drama.

And of course it was the God of the bible who said,

Deuteronomy 7:1-2 “When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations...then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy."
and repeated the command at Deuteronomy 20:16. And that's only one example.

So mercy is, in my view, a human thing, a human option. I don't know enough about the circumstances of the lady you mention to form an opinion, and I do know that certain US states have a bad reputation for discriminating against the disadvantaged in sentencing.

I can only say that sometimes it appears to me that mercy is appropriate, at other times that it's not appropriate, and (as now) there are times when I don't know the answer.

How do you know that? According to the scriptures, God patiently waited hundreds of years ( approximately 120) before bringing judgment upon the increasingly wickedness of earth’s inhabitants by the flood. God waited year after year, and and warned through Noah decade after decade “while the ark was being prepared” (1 Peter 3:20).

Perhaps a more useful question to a voter is which candidates have less moral failings? Not Trump - Hes on the big end of moral failure.

    In my opinion
