And, according to former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough, when Trump was being prepped for debating Hillary by a defense expert, Trump supposedly asked him three times that if we have nuclear weapons why aren't we using them?

I strongly suspect that poor old befuddled donald, truly has not a clue what a nuclear weapon is, why it works, and how much damage it does beyond the immediate destructive potential.

That would be consistent with his near-total ignorance of economics, sociology, geopolitics, history and a whole host of other important things a President ought to be nominally aware of...

But trumpe sure knows how to tweet! The most important skill a President can have, right?

Methinks you misremember.
I don't recall anyone thinking he was a dove.
Twas only that Hilda had a demonstrable record of being a
hawk, while Trump was merely a recordless loose cannon.
Trump had a demonstrable video and vocal record which many chose to ignore. Acting like Trump wasnt a hawk just cause he wasnt in politics, he has been very vocal about his political positions over the years. He liked when Iraq was making him money.

Hilda was also on record as being a restrained stateswoman.
Even some prominent Democrats also criticized her hawkish
record, eg, voting for starting & continuing wars in the Senate.
Don't make me side with Susan Sarandon again!
Our differences in judgement aside, do you have any buyer’s remorse, concerning Trump’s bellicosity and the staff he’s assembling?
When one is committed to gambling, one does what one calculates to give the best odds.
If one is later found to have lost, buyer's remorse would be silly.
But so far, Trump's worst possible act has not occurred, ie, we've no new wars.
And the rest of his policies & acts aren't so bad a mixed bag.
With the information available at the time, I still say I made the best choice.
Knowing all that I now know, I'd have voted for the best candidate, Gary
Johnson (knowing that Trump would still beat Hillary).

I think the fundamental difference I have with many on the left is that I look
at actual effect in office, while they dwell upon how he personally makes them feel.
So they are naturally upset with his continuing to be an ethically challenged boor.
(As for Dovey Donald, there was the NYT article “Donald the Dove, Hillary the Hawk.” Perhaps the alliteration was too much to resist.)
I don't recall that particular article, but I'd rather not endure
arguments that Donald & Hillary were both doves.

I don't know why you're quoting me to try to convince me Trump was at risk
of hawkish behavior. I stated this was the case prolly long before you did.

I'd agree if Trump wasnt so vocal over the years regarding politics, but I understand what you mean by "recordless". But there what we know as public record which includes social media.
Talk is cheap.
Votes in office effect real policy.

His executive orders have been pretty consistent with his rants.
Aye, but in the context of judging a candidate running
for office, future performance is.....well, in the future.
Can't use it.

What a politician says, must be discounted, eg, Obama's
promises to end the wars & to close Gitmo. Thus,
looking at past performance is the most reliable guide to
future performance. Hillary, unlike Donald, had a record.

No Democrat has ever been observed agreeing with the above.
So we must agree to disagree.

I think all such pretence has been well and truly dropped now, with "we need to attack Korea right now" Bolton whispering sweet nothings in el Trumpo's shellike.
