The one that got away
She dimmed her eyes to stem the glow
that shone, where'er she would go
and yet, within the dark she chose,
I saw that glorious light that once arose
From eyes so deep within,
like wells into her soul, from which I'd learn
of life and what lies after life,
and after after life.
Within those eyes, laid bare her precious soul;
I gazed within, and turned away
from depths too deep for me to see,
too deep for me to hold,
as would an urchin, from a Queen.
I often think of she who got away,
and watched, amazed, as others played their lines
each full of hope that she would take the bait
and let them in her heart,
but with each fling, she would draw near,
and then she'd rear
onto another line, from which she would escape.
