Today's thread is about my experience watching OAN this morning.
It's a "Gorillas In The Mist" thingie....ie, I observe to understand them
    & their perspective.
    Not the issues presented.
Feel free to give your observations about any news source.

I'm astounded that I came away with the impression that Covid 19
isn't at all dangerous. The vaccines, masking, & social distancing
are all a Democrat plot to cow us into total submission.
    There's more!
The people dying of Covid 19 now are only vaccinated people.
And the vaccine side effects are also deadly.

They' play fast & loose with statistics (largely ignoring them),
& they post clips of Biden's mistakes about vaccine efficacy.
It's all to create an emotional impression, devoid of useful
    information.
This helps me understand anti-vaxers. If they don't search
out sources like Johns Hopkins, CDC, Mayo Clinic, etc,
then they'll be in an echo chamber the likes of OAN.

I also understand the Biden administration is locking up innocent people who attended the peaceful protest (or tourists) of January 6th.

Meh... The spin doctors have turned into straight up spin prophets. It's getting pretty culty, and pretty dumb.

I struggle reading the news now without getting bored out of my skull by the focus on the narrative in spite of the actual information presented. At least in the past you could read both right and left media to glean information from both sides, but now they are both just so bereft of any real information. I always have to research things deeper to see what information was left out, or to see how the actual information vs. the spin pans out. It's exhausting, and it's irritating. o_O

Sometimes on my way to work in the mornings, I listen to the local Fox News affiliate. (On a side note, the radio dial is nothing but a wasteland these days.) But the morning talk host uses many of the same talking points, about how the "China virus" is a hoax and how they're trying to force everyone to wear masks. Trump is still the real President; the election was also a fraud.

Now, they have Clay Travis and Buck Sexton on as permanent replacements in Rush Limbaugh's former timeslot. Hannity and Mark Levin in the afternoons.

I used to look at the headlines from the "National Enquirer" back in the day and prefer those headlines about alien babies, monsters lurking in the deep etc.

To this day, I blame the elimination of the fairness doctrine that offered multiple views both advocate and opposition.

I found a newspaper dated from the forties and lo and behold there was the tabloid alongside regular news on the same page.

I'm no fan of the fairness doctrine. Sure, it could balance
things. But I also associate it with speech restrained in
order to devote time to opposition.
We live in an age with increased risk of echo chamberism,
but we also have more access to news than ever before.

When it first came out I felt the same way as I viewed it as interference with freedom of the press. The problem with that begs the question, Does the press have its own obligation to tell the truth?

A free press isnt worth much if it's unreliable and worthless as a source of information.

    There are a couple philosophies....
    1) Government manages truthiness of news.
    2) The consumer vets the news consumed.

Neither is perfect....to say the least.
    I simply prefer #2.

Well, Bill had an affair with a space cadet, so I guess Hillary had to one up him in retaliation.

So you stepped into the right-wing alternate reality. It's truly something to behold, isn't it?

    I surf many realities.
But OAN is the most amazing one I frequent.
    Gorillas in the mist.
