I don't think there is anything more gratifying than growing your own vegetables etc. When my daughter wants to make a salad, she picks the ingredients from her garden. They also plant squash, zucchini, cauliflower and a variety of lettuce. They make wine from their grapevines.
They look pretty good. Just how i like them.

The are big enough. Are they yellow onions. For the Brits here that would be brown onions.
Just onions as far as i know.
We get red, white spring, shallot, but everyday brown skinned onions are just called onions
I think we call them yellow onions here. They are pretty good. And pretty versatile.
My wife grew lettuce this year. And we managed to eat some before the summer heat kicked in. It was darn good.
Made a salad with some after the heat had set. And they were bitter as trash. Apparently high heat causes them to bolt, and then turn bitter.
Could be, she said hers was now gone by. Its also one of the first ready to eat. They do a lot of canning with the vegetables, especially tomatoes and zucchini etc.
