Understandable. I'm locked into DOS boxes cuz it would cost too much to port my operating system (BOS) to run under
another OS as a faux application or another architecture in native mode. A friend owns a computer repair shop says
that Apples are expensive & a b**** to work on though. Serviceability is one area where their engineering is lacking.

I've seen no evidence of this.

I'm a Linux user; I don't use Ubuntu, though -- I don't really care for the Unity Desktop Environment, so I use Linux Mint with MATE.

Now I shall speak the ultimate blasphemy: I don't like Star Wars OR Star Trek.

    I don't even care. :beach:

By "superior engineering" you mean brand hype? ;)

I've only serviced big old desktop PCs, so I can only consider the experience of others.

You can get quality engineering in a PC.

    An example:
PC - a set on Flickr

    (Yes, that is my computer)

I customized the tower case for my work desktop to make it look like a major explosion occurred inside.
I made ragged holes of varying sizes, singed them with a torch, & used black paint to simulate smoke
damage. It pleases me to see jaws drop when people see it. I casually explain that I had a hard disk crash.

    Meet Ubuntu | Ubuntu

For videos, just search Youtube, there are tons of videos of people showing off their Linux desktops, Linux is ridiculously customizable.

Apple certainly had the advantage of a more integrated hardware & software design, with greater attention to human interaction.

Not to mention an OS that is qualitatively superior to anything MS offers.

I'm a network engineer and I work on both. Once you get use to a Mac you tend to swear off PCs forever. Personally I'm an PC guy because I'm use to them and can maneuver through and around them very easily. Over the years I've become more and more of a Linux man though.......In the grand scheme of things it's apples to apples.

While your PC may break...it's usually easier and cheaper to get it fixed. Mac, not so much. Mac aren't susceptible to virus attacks on a massive scale such as Windows but with more and more people buying and using then it's a matter of time before it gets worse.

Truth be told..Mac and Linux are cousins. I think Mac uses a Unix code. The big difference between Mac and Linux is that Linux is "open source"....which allows developers to create their own apps to run on Linux. Microsoft and Apple lock their OS down.

Basically you just have to use what works for you. Oh...and I didn't mention that IMHO..Microsoft has messed it all up with Windows 8.......not a fan at all....

Being a PC Geek...I built my own...and it rivals any Mac...

    Quad Core AMD
    8GB Ram
    1GB Video Card
    100GB System Drive
    1TB Drive for files
    1TB drive for backups
    2 DVD Writable Drives
    Wireless KB and mouse

All connected to a 26" HD LCD TV (using as a monitor)...and it all cost me less than a grand to build.....

    :D

Of course, one doesn't have to us a MS OS on a PC.

    Looks like a Decepticon......:D

Looks way cooler than mine. I have some pretty blue lights too but I was going for more function over form. Great pics.

Yeah, I don't like Windows 8 either. I love Windows 7 though. I have been told Windows 8 is pretty much Windows 7 with the touch screen stuff added and some other improvements, but I don't like them limiting apps, that is one of the major reasons I don't like Apple.

I tried Zorin; it was just like Windows -- even down to the fact it kept crashing on me. :p
