I have met a few Jews and was left very confused. These days, I refer to myself as an Abrahamic Religionist, though I have been several types of Christian, and two types of Muslims in the past. I'm pretty disorganized and not at all obedient to the ideas of men.

Here in America, I briefly lived in the same house as a Jew who ate only boiled Chicken and boiled Cabbage. He yelled at me for shutting the light off for him. I was just trying to be helpful.

When I visited Israel, none of the Jews would speak to us, and the elevators stopped at each floor on Shabat. They were very superioristic.

These days, I am retired, so study religions. I can see that Christianity has around 80 or so different denominations, and that some of them hate the others. In Islam, they say there are 4 Sunni schools of thought and a few Shia ones.

It is unlikely that I will ever be Jewish, but I would like to learn enough about it to be reasonably mindful and courteous to those I encounter.

Well Judaism is diverse as any, and you'll find some different Jews with different ways about themselves just like any other person. But what is the real concern that you have?

    @Ellen Brown -

You might want to repost your inquiry in the overall Judaism DIR. You posted in the Conservative Judaism DIR and under the rules responses in this subforum DIR are limited to Jews who identify with that movement. That will limit the responses you get since I can only think of two who have identified as Conservative - @Akivah and @Tarheeler.

You'll lose the benefit of the insights of @rosends and @Tumah, @Flankerl, @metis, and @Jayhawker Soule when he returns and if he can stifle a yawn. And who knows, I might even have a few words that you might useful.

I'm sorry. I thought that was what I was doing. I give up.

Or you could 1) Start this Thread in the general Judaism DIR or ask a Mod to move your thread there.

Wow, this is the first time I've been here in a long time. Thanks for posting my name, Rabbio. I got an alert in my email. Is it still the same old, same old here?

Actually, I had questions about Jewish belief, though I am an Abrahamic Religionist. My intention was not to convert you to Christianity, or Islam. I had thought that the Jews were the Chosen of the Creator, but in today's practice that seems to be to the exclusion of non-Jews. No, I don't accuse you of murdering the Messiah. It has been so long since I asked my original questions that I don't even remember. I was wondering how much of the original Jewish texts were considered to be part of what Christians and Muslims call either the Old Testament, or The Book, among other things.

Due to my own experiences, the Creator has already promised me reconciliation, though you may not agree.

    Shalom.

    What? The Noahide Laws

That really depends how much value you give different order, false translations and entirely different content.

    Why all the passive aggressiveness?

I'm sorry. I've tried to put passive aggressiveness away, and ask your forgiveness and that of G_d. My only excuse is that I'm cranky right now because of pain. It's been difficult to have a conversation with Jews in general, and I do not understand why?

As to translations, the King James Version is for study, and have been told that the first five books of it, (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) are the Jewish books. I am trying to understand the origin and validity of the rest of them.

I did look up the Noahide Laws, and they make sense. So, that leaves the question of where did the Gentiles come from? I think I have some understanding of the origin of the descendants of Ishmael. The wars and hatred in the Middle East make me sad.

According to my understanding, it seems the religious model for the Abrahamic belief systems is that one day there will be a Messiah come to Earth to fulfill the will of the Creator. The Christians believe he came once, was Murdered, and will return again. Muslims believe that Jesus (Issa PBUH) came and was the best prophet and will return. This divergence of beliefs is something that will likely not be solved in my lifetime.

I was not raised with any religion and only addressed that in my late twenties. These days, it seems like I am an Abrahamic Religionist. Beyond that, the truth seems elusive.

Please go and see a doctor.

The "why?" part is me understanding your posts.
Jews in this Forum have answered your questions have they not?

You have been told that the first five books are called the Torah and that our scriptures also include the Nevi'im and Ketuvim.

We generally don't use Christian writings or Christian bibles.

From the sons of Noah like literally everyone else.

    I see.

Good for the Christians and Muslims. They are wrong though.

Please? You say they are wrong, but not why? It is obvious to me that what Christians and Muslims write is from their point of view. I was once Christian and some of the things they taught were unbelievable, and that is why I question. I'm quite connected with Islam, but it seems that in some ways it is a copy of Judaism. Perhaps there is not a "true" religion, so I want to worship and please the true Creator.

I don't feel like this would be a good place to do that. It is also rather easy to find out why Jews reject Christianity and Islam.

Also this is still in the Conservative DIR so I am actually not allowed to answer here at all. Sorry.

That's unfortunate. I've just wanted to understand more, and have an answer for antisemitism. Somewhere in there, I feel that the Creator loves us all ...and if not that then he wishes us to not fight each other.
