Abu Fayd Thawban Ibn Ibrahim Dhu'l Nun al-Misri, may Allah be Merciful to him, was one of the most important figures in the history of Sufism. Infact, he is considered as the first Sufi to have theoretically spoken about ma'arifah, maqamat, ahwal and other key concepts on this subject.
