It seems like something from the past now. Kamala Harris has dropped out of the race, and now, next weeks candidates' debate, in Los Angeles, will be comprised of all caucasions.
...So what has happened to identity politics? Is it dead for good? Have the winds of progressivism shifted?
I don't think this has anything to do with "identity politics". I think it has everything to do with money. Specifically, who has it, and who they'll give it to in support of their run for office. The people (corporate conglomerates) that have money to throw at political candidates will throw it first at candidates that preach the wonder and glory of the god-like rich who provide us all with everything we need to live, and who will promise to do whatever the god-like wealthy overlords want them to, when they're elected.
BUT, if that message isn't working, and it appears that the toady candidate cannot win, then they will give the money to a candidate that does not preach the worship of wealth, because they still want that candidate to be beholding to them, if they should win. Nearly always, the oligarchs give money to both sides, and give the most money to whatever side appears to be winning, even though they like the toadies, better. Because no matter who wins, they want the winner to be beholding to them for their win. Better to turn them into a corporate toady, later.
So as you watch candidates drop out, it has NOTHING to do with identity politics, or even with what they preach, really. And it has everything to do with whichever way the winds of the polling data blows, and who it appears has the better chance of winning at the moment. The money is going to go to those who appear to have a better chance of winning, which then forces the other candidate to drop out.
