What is your belief concerning the return of Christ? Has it happened? Will it happen? When? How will it happen? How will you know? Are there conditions which must be met before it happens? What are they? Have any of them been fulfilled?

I believe that Christ will come again. I have no idea when it will happen, but I hope it is in my lifetime. When he returns, it will be in glory and there will be no question that it is Him. I believe that those who follow Him will know Him immediately.

Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, when I was still Christian, I had a strong beliefe that Christ wouldn't return any time shortly. Everyone suddenly expected it, and the Bible does say the day shall come like a thief in the night. Can't be unepected if everyone expects it. No one seemed to believe me.

Perhaps he came and wasn't recognised.
Perhaps that is the test, to recognise his coming.

A great many people thought it would be at the year 2000 as well, and lost faith when it did not happen, that is the problem with "setting dates". The Bible says if someone tells you "He is in the desert" don't give it your attention, because when He comes it will be seen from East to West across the skies like the brilliance of lightning!

I'd never thought about that 'danger' of setting dates; now you mention it, of course it makes sense...:)

If God had a name, what would it be
And would you call it to his face
If you were faced with him in all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question

And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
    yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like heaven and in jesus and the saints and all the prophets
What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
He's trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
    Nobody calling on the phone
Except for the pope maybe in rome -Joan Osbourne

He already came "like one of us" and was rejected by men and crucified. Next time He will come in power and glory!

    What
is the meaning of Jesus’ coming "in the same manner" as he ascended to heaven?

Acts 1:9-11: "While they [Jesus’ apostles] were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud caught him up from their vision. And as they were gazing into the sky while he was on his way, also, look! two men in white garments stood alongside them, and they said: ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who was received up from you into the sky will come thus in the same manner as you have beheld him going into the sky.’" (Notice that this says "the same manner," not the same body. What was the "manner" of his ascent? As verse 9 shows, he disappeared from view, his departure being observed only by his disciples. The world in general was not aware of what happened. The same would be true of Christ’s return.)

Mark 13:10: "In all the nations the good news has to be preached first.....yes all have to be put on notice that Gods kingdom goverment is the only way to peace....

And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come....matthew 24;14 only when this is done to Gods satisfaction will Jesus christ come as Jehovahs judge of people , they will be judged as to how they respond to the Good news of the kingdom goverment and its representatives.then the end of this system will come .hurray for the heavenly kingdom ,:clap with Jesus as king.so Jesus will judge us as to wheather we are sheep or goats

Matt. 25:31, 32, 46: "When the Son of man [Jesus Christ] arrives in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne. And all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And these [who fail to recognize Christ’s spiritual brothers as representatives of the King himself] will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life.......yes there is only one goverment that will rule in the right way and that is Gods heavenly goverment. daniel 2;44so the king is already ruling but he has yet to show his power, he will not come in the flesh again , but people will know and recognize his rulership but how will they respond to it ?

I am on lack of time. Your many questions on the return of Christ will get many various views depending on which religion one is, and will then become a debate of those positions, so you may not learn much. I would research what all the religions believe on that and come to your own conclusions.

I don't EVEN have time or inclination to defend this, or list the verses, but I will tell my view. (gulps)

    Has it happened? No.
    Will it happen? Yes.
When? Ah, and here is the rub. from I thes. chapter 4 he meets believers in the air to be with him forever. In Revelation at the end, he comes and conquers Satan and his followers and sets up his millenial kingdom. So for me, his 2nd coming is a two part deal, one for the church, one with the church. And herein lies much disagreement among brethren.

Now for the first 'coming', which I call the rapture, it is imminent, and will be as a thief in the night and no man know the hour.

The Second Coming as read in Revelation, can be seen to happen at the end of the Great Seven Year Tribulation, thus those who live at that time will know.

How will we know? As for the Rapture, Jesus snatches up his church like a thief in the night, suddenly many people will simply vanish. The 2nd Coming, however, ALL will see him, like lightening across the sky.

What are the conditions? There are no more prophecies to fulfil before the rapture, but as for THE 2nd Coming, if you read revelation, it will tell you of the antichrist ruling, a 7 year tribulation, etc. that must happen first. There are of course many old testament propecies about this like in Daniel and Ezekiel, but I gotta go, my wife wants to watch movies, lol.

Like I said, this is ONE of many slants on the subject, and I probably wont argue it, you will hear a lot of other views, and people discrediting mine, so, get to the bookstore and read up. Vanished Into Thin Air, The Hope Of Every Believer, by Hal Lindsey is a good read on the subject, although controversial to many, I am sure, but I think he explains his position quite well, an excellent read regardless of your beliefs. PEACE!

I came across a book (promoting atheism) which said the Gospel had been preached to all the world by the 1840s. Frustratingly, no source of authoritative information was given in support of that statement.

I actually have very definite beliefs on the subject; I posed the question to see the thoughts of those who practice traditional Christianity on the subject. Thank you for recomending the books. I also have a good book to recommend: A Thief In the Night, by William Sears.
