The Ex-Muslims of North America have worked with researchers at George Mason University have just released a survey of over 550 former Muslims currently living in the US and Canada.

One of the conclusions from the blog i found interesting is that, general arguments against religious belief and problems in the Quran apply as reasons for apostasy from Islam. That means that reforming conservative branches of Islam likely wouldn't change much in terms of keeping those people in the fold.
Another one I found interesting is that social stigma of Islam in the west had no impact on apostasy.
