'Traffic control' is a technique practiced by the Brahmakumaris to keep a regular check on the traffic flow of thoughts at regular intervals . This is done by stopping whatever one is doing and withdrawing attention from everything around you ( if it is practical) . Some meditators observe Traffic Control by observing 3 minutes of silence according to a schedule such as the following: 10.30 am, 12.30 pm, 5.30 pm, 7.30 pm and just before retiring. Others prefer to stop for one minute every hour on the hour, or as per a pre-determined schedule.
By becoming aware of the heavy traffic of thoughts flowing in one's mind, often incessant and compulsive, and observing the thoughts as a witness, they will naturally begin to slow down.
This exercise can help one to detach and relax, energise oneself , regain focus and energy which can be directed to one's duties.
