The Politics of Austerity

I recently found this video, and it pretty much sums up whats wrong with the politics of the world, not just America.

YouTube - The Watson Institute at Brown University presents Mark Blyth on Austerity

When he says that class politics "end badly", think about the French Revolution kind of "badly". Historically, the best outcome of this sort of proposal (along with the other labor laws being passed by Congress and state leges around the country) has been the rise of the unions, Haymarket Square, etc. The worst outcome? Bloody, violent revolutions.

It's nice to see someone getting the message out, but the other side in this battle of the classes -- the uber-rich -- are winning the war of messages. Most folks think austerity will benefit them. You don't need bayonets to keep the poor down if you can fool them into staying down of their own will.
