The word politics derives from two key words. It is greek in origin, and these are the two words:

Poly (prefix) meaning "many", or "multiple"
    Ticks (n) meaning "bloodsucking parasites"

So there you go, that's the origin of the word "Politics"

Middle English politik, from Old French politique, from Latin polticus, political, from Greek poltikos, from polts, citizen, from polis, city

The joke gets old after about the fifth time.
