It appears, the lady who was portrayed in the painting, wasn't feeling any emotion, but was associating the situation earlier, where she felt no emotion, but had to have a certain facial expression with the same feeling of no emotion. The first instance seems to be with a person. The second instance seems to be with the painter, but a person who regards her, not like the first, and regards nonetheless. The two persons might be the same. But, it is very unlikely, as the first person must have been her husband.
