A man named Maximilian Kolbe was offered a red crown of martyrdom from the Virgin Mary, as a rich gift.
He actually left Japan to go oppose the Nazis in writing, trying to get arrested, and take advantage of the gift the Nazis were offering him , to die a painful glorious death, in one of their camps.
He saw it as a crown, a gift, long ago, and saw the death camp and being a Holocaust victim, as his opportunity, to not pass up the rich opportunity , to be a victim of the Holocaust.
Maximilian Kolbe would have been very disappointed if he survived the Holocaust, so anxious was he to make sure he didn't pass up the opportunity to have the glory and honor of dying in a Nazi concentration camp, that when an inmate was sentenced to die in the starvation bunker, Maximilian seized his opportunity to live the dreams of a successful man, and insisted that he should be honored the opportunity to die slowly in a starvation bunker, and spare the guy that doesn't want it.
The guard sent him to the starvation bunker, and the place the officers said sounded like a Church, where he was having romance with God and the Virgin Mary, singing Religious hymns.
