The Law of God

What is the law of God? The law written on the heart of men?

Are these the mitzvot of the OT?
The 10 commandments?
Or is this law something else?

How do we know whether we follow the law if we do not know what it is?
As followers of Christ we would say that the commandments are summed up into two laws of love. Love God with all of your heart, your soul, your mind and your strength and love your neighbor as yourself.

It should be written in our hearts but not necessarily have we let Him do it.

Yes, it is kind of obvious that there are few people about that feels love for everyone they come across.
Perhaps an ideal, but I can't really see even the Holy Spirit being able to fix this in humans.

IMHO

This is a new age, this is the 'Day of God' and a New Covenant has been given with new laws for this age.

Worry no longer, here they are.

Yes, I can see how the would be a question.

I'm not sure how much you want within the context of a Christian faith viewpoint. But to relegate to an over-simplified but still true statement I would say this...

It is like a seed that is planted (law of love) - the ground and the growth have to be tended to to produce the fruit.

Has that seed grown for you to the point you can engulf everyone with love?

I think He does fix it in humans. I think, as humans, we may erroneously define a certain aspect.

We believe that Jesus was the perfect example of God's kind of love and yet, within that love, he said this:

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, pretenders (hypocrites)! For you are like tombs that have been whitewashed, which look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything impure."

Sometime, apparently, being straightforward is tough but still love.

But, like I said, it is progressive in humanity. The healing process to perfected love is a journey.

Maybe we are looking at the half empty glass and don't realize that it was completely empty at the beginning as it is being filled?

That is a universal application that I won't be able to answer until I have met everyone and have experienced every nuance.

What I can say is that I haven't met someone I haven't loved up to today. And, yes, I can say the seed has grown in me.

Then, of course, I know of a person who went to preach to his daughter's killer -- her husband. After seeing her blood splattered all over the living room, he we went to prison and shared Jesus with him. Pretty tall order that I pray I don't have to confront.

It’s interesting how so many mock the laws of God yet since time began we still have not achieved universal love or brotherhood throughout the world. Wars, cruelty and oppression still abound. Love between nations, races and religions would work wonders yet strangely we scoff the Prophets for appealing to us to behave this way.

Franklin compiled a list of virtues that he would try to follow. That was his great project of moral perfection.

In his Autobiography, he stated that he “never arrived at the Perfection [he] had been so ambitious of obtaining,” and, indeed, “fell far short of it.” However, he found it to be very worthwhile. Franklin had learned a valuable lesson about character at a relatively young age. The endeavor was a great success, he wrote, as it made him “a better and happier Man than [he] otherwise should have been, if [he] had not attempted it.”

IMO, people are perfect as they are. Imperfection happens when you are trying to live up to someone else's idea of what you ought to be.

First of all, as Jeremiah 17:9 says our hearts are treacherous. Can't be trusted.
Besides the first "10" there is a number 11,12,13,13,15.... up to about 613 commands as part of the Mosaic Law.
Christ was the end of that temporary Constitution of the Mosaic law for ancient Israel. - Romans 10:4
Christians are under the Law of Christ (Galatians 6:2) which is Jesus' New command found at John 13:34-35.
Christians are to love as Christ loved us (John 15:12)
In other words, we are now to love neighbor MORE than self, more than the Golden Rule of Leviticus 19:18.
As for the law written in hearts (Jeremiah 31:33) that 'new covenant' since Pentecost for Christians.
Jesus being the Mediator since Pentecost. - Hebrews 10:16; Hebrews 8:10,13

We are Now to love neighbor MORE than self, more than the old Golden Rule.
In other words, we are now to have the same self-sacrificing love for others as Jesus has.

I suppose God felt this is the best he could hope for from man.
Encourage a feeling of love so we might go about treating each other in a decent manner.

False clergy especially mock the laws of God.
Never universal brotherhood because false clergy use the 'pulpit' as a recruiting station so parents will send their sons to the Altar of War as if that is the same as the Altar of God which it is Not.
Jesus taught to lay down the sword ( weapons ) - Matthew 26:52
Christian weapons are spiritual - Ephesians 6:11-17
Christian weapons are Not carnal weapons - 2 Corinthians 10:4
The flock goes along with their false clergy and defends them over Scripture.

Yes, to think of the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:33; Jeremiah 32:40 ) for Christians began at Pentecost.
The NEW law Jesus gave at John 13:34-35 to have the same self-sacrificing love for others as Jesus has.
In other words, to now love others MORE than self, more than the Golden Rule of Leviticus 19:18.

Free will is an important part of learning. If one does not have free will, one will choose the opposite as soon as one acquires free will in order to Discover what one is missing.

With this in mind, God grants total free will and free choices. God makes no laws. God will never coerce or intimidate your choices. God will never threaten, have anger or wrath from any choices His children choose to make.

Choosing is part of the learning process. One will learn from one's every choice. Our actions and choices will return, in time, to teach us what our choices really mean. Each will choose what they want to learn through that free choice.

When one understands all sides, our Intelligence will choose the best choices. This is why God will never have to create laws thereby having to enforce them somehow.

Think and use your greatest wisdom when choosing. One can create hard lessons for oneself or one can create great joy for oneself. What are you really creating for yourself and others? It's so simple, yet so hard for so many to see.

That's what I see. It's very clear!

Loved your quotes especially about spiritual weapons. It’s so clear. Thanks for these awesome quotes.

Love is the truth that we are one. "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." Without truth free will can hinder itself. Some (repeated) choices can sink deeper and deeper in the delusion of egoism ("bondage of sin"). The problem is not sin (because we all sin). The problem is staying in sin.

Free will is not without law. Choices have consequences as you said.

It is my opinion that the law of the true God is correctly understood to be the new covenant, which is written into the minds of those who have been called and chosen. It is an agreement between the individual and the Creator to put all trust and love into said Creator. It is not a book, a religious organization or a person. However, this doesn't mean that some aspects of books, religious organizations or people aren't part of the new covenant. So, when we consider the big picture most historical records outline successes and (mostly) failures of mankind's purpose and that purpose is to be in complete agreement with the will of the Creator. This idea must be written into the mind and accepted "completely" by the receiver, before one can be chosen and understand what is meant by the term: the law of God.
