Comes from this huge website -

Kindness: Buddha & Dalai Lama & COVID-19 - Stillness Speaks

Here's a little taste -

In our last post, Compassion: Dalai Lama & Robert William Service, we suggested that as we all navigate the COVID-19 global crisis, it would be beneficial to balance these challenging times by consciously deepening the qualities that bring us all together: compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. These are qualities that will be tested as we navigate this pandemic so any reminders to cultivate and deepen these are timely and worth contemplating (of course that is true at any time in our lives).

All the best!

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway. - Kent M. Keith-

Books to help you develop empathy - from a recent site -

There are few objects we can hold in our hands more amazing than a book. They can act as a time machine, transporting us to the past or some imagined future. Or they can allow us to spend time in someone else’s shoes—see through their eyes, feel what they feel—and gain some understanding, no matter how different their lives.

Reading is one of the most powerful tools we have for developing empathy. And that ability to see things through someone else’s eyes is more important than ever. The Happify team is sharing the books that helped them open their hearts and minds to other realities and other lives. Check out our list, perhaps you’ll see a book you’ve read that affected you deeply, or discover a new favorite.

Humans are social beings. We want to understand the people we interact with in our daily lives and we want to be understood. Whether we're receiving it or dishing it out, empathy enhances our communities and helps us to function more effectively—and happily–alongside each other.

This broad benefit of empathy is just the beginning of all that we can reap from zeroing in on others’ emotions. The science of empathy is expansive. We know that empathetic people have more satisfying relationships and perform better in the workplace. We know that people who are actively listened to feel as though they are finally understood and we know that patients do better with empathetic physicians.

Living a life with meaning and purpose is key to improving your psychological well-being. Your purpose doesn’t necessarily have to involve changing the world or finding a career devoted to helping others though.

Instead, you might make it your purpose to be kind every day. Or, your purpose might involve making the world better by encouraging others to take care of the environment or adopt pets from the shelter. Maybe your purpose is being an advocate for those who are hurting like bullied students, the homeless, or victims of abuse.

Caring about others is fundamental to our happiness. Helping other people is not only good for them and a great thing to do, it also makes us happier and healthier too. Giving also creates stronger connections between people and helps to build a happier society for everyone. And it's not all about money - we can also give our time, ideas and energy. So if you want to feel good, do good!

A few more kind suggestions - a few dozen in fact! -

I love random acts of kindness. These small, or not so small, deeds really do make a difference in the world and in the lives of others. The greater the number of people that commit to performing these acts of kindness, the more exponential the effect because of its contagious nature.

Any act of kindness has value, no matter how big or small. However, the acts of kindness listed below are ones that you can do TODAY because they do not require preparation, planning, or a long-term commitment. If we can perform at least one of these kind acts each and every day, we will slowly, but surely, leave an indelible legacy of kindness in this world:

70 Simple Random Acts of Kindness You Can Do Every Day

According to Davidson, we are all better off when we believe in the basic goodness of our fellow human beings and ourselves, for that matter. If we adopted this principle, we’d all feel less aggressive and experience less violence in our society. Dr. Kristin Neff, who’s done extensive research on the benefits of self-compassion, also lists “common humanity” as one of three key elements to self-compassion.

“All humans suffer,” said Neff. “The very definition of being ‘human’ means that one is mortal, vulnerable and imperfect. Therefore, self-compassion involves recognizing that suffering and personal inadequacy is part of the shared human experience — something that we all go through rather than being something that happens to ‘me’ alone.”

In his book The Ethics of Interpersonal Relationships, Dr. Robert Firestone addresses the benefits of seeing our common humanity and outlines the dangers of focusing on our differences and the need to see “our group” as superior.

Truly adopting these four principles of well-being into our lives can help us to live a more harmonious and rewarding existence. However, there is a fifth element I would add that can enhance our ability to live a more generous, resilient, attentive and good life, and that is differentiation.
