The Haiku Thread

Just a little thread
that I thought I would start up
just for fun. You know?

Every post must
follow the rules of haiku
numerology

In each stanza write
five, then seven, then five more
syllables per line.

Beyond that don't fret.
Expectations are not high
Just count syllables.
----------------------

For those who would like;
true haiku has some more depth.
I'll elaborate.

One line stands alone.
and two lines work together
to make a full thought.

The loner line may
be the first or the last one.
It matters not which.

One stanza of this
haiku poetry should yield ---
A scene in the mind.

Traditionally
The image conveyed is that
of nature's beauty.

The greatest challenge
is stirring the heart with but
so few syllables.

See three examples;
Far beyond my pitiful
ken. True masters' works.

-----------------------------------------

A world of dew,
and within every dewdrop
a world of struggle

-------------------------------

At a roadside shrine,
before the stony buddha
a firefly burns

-------------------------------

Now I see her face,
the old woman, abandoned,
the moon her only companion

First post too intense?
Just come here to write haiku
Some must have talent.

---------------------------

Sunlight filled office.
Frustration and daydreams mix:
I am trapped at work.

You should stop reading
If you need talent for this
pain will rise from bliss

Like all other days
The not blue sky full with rain
graciously falling

I hear the man words,
myths and lies spoken as truth
unquestioned by fools

Always keep seeking.
Avoid those that "know" the truth;
that is the fool's path.

Subtle irony
is best when it falls upon
sarcastic speakers

Stands in a towel
On a porch at a locked door
New day awakens

Waves lap around it
Seagulls jockey above it
Smelly fish carcass

Silent car, crisp snow
Peering in, breath curls and clouds
Keys in ignition

As you leave, one hope -
She gives you what she gave me:
Raging syphilis

not yet redeemed
for past errors too quickly made
carefully I check

not yet released
from past judgment so aptly made
carefully I check

no not yet at peace
not yet appeased not yet
finished checking

It occurs to me
The metaphor is the thing;
There meaning abounds

you seek mystery,
within reality's eye
I see the magic

held to be sacred,
the smallest of truths reveal
that which is profane

An "A" for effort
But past tense "-ed" does not add
extra syllables. :cover:

Past discretions are
easily forgiven with
future successes

When I was early
on in the day, I felt the
Breath of spring at hand

Now in the cold night
with hope far away, I must
Be resinged to wait
:clap :clap

Sleep well through the night.
The dawn and spring cannot help
but rise once again.
