The easiest religion to follow?

I don't know if this has been done before, it seems like such an obvious thing to bring up...

Question: Out of all the world’s religions, which one would you say is the easiest, most low maintenance to follow?

I say Christianity:
  • No dietary rules
  • No mandatory system of regular ritual prayer (unless in a monastery)
  • Forgiveness of sins if you repent and promise never to do it again
  • Love God
  • Love others as you love God
  • Do unto others
  • Accept Christ as your Lord and saviour and receive eternal life
  • Follow the ethical and spiritual teachings of Christ - make him your Lord
  • Make more followers of Christ, as best you can
  • Turn the other cheek
  • Forgiveness of sins through Christ's horrible death
  • Forgive those who have wronged you
  • Blessed are the meek
…and probably many more…

But that’s not why I became a Christian! :D

Do you think your religion is more or less easy to follow than Christianity?

I know that in the early days of Christianity you had to sell all your worldly goods and give up your job and family, to become a Christian. But in the OP I was talking about in this day and age

It's easy to draw in followers with promises of an easy religion...
Agreed

I think I could have worded the OP better:

"What is the simplest religion to follow"

A thing can be simple but also hard to do!

What Christianity are you looking at?

The christianity I was in said that I couldn't drink blood, I had to confess my sins to elders and then they would put me on notice, I couldn't marry a non believer, I had to preach continuously door to door, I had to attend meetings often, I had to follow certain rules otherwise I might end up in a judicial committee...

I had to work for salvation man!

I would say that Christianity is probably the most difficult to follow. The reason being is that do actually DO what it says, not just "believe" what it says, requires a full surrender of the ego, and full transformation of one's life. Very few actually do what it says.

To quote from G.K. Chesterton, "'The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried."

In this country (Canada)? Christianity. Our society caters to it.

"Standard" work schedules, uniforms, food offerings at grocery stores & restaurants, etc., etc. are all built around Christian standards and norms, and often conflict with the standards and norms of other religions.

Most employers give people Christmas and Easter off automatically; it's often a battle for people in other religions to get their holy days off work.

Our society throws up all sorts of barriers to participation for people in other religions that it doesn't throw up for Christianity.

I'm not going to comment on every point, just the ones I feel are important.

No dietary rules
Not as such no, however prescribed periods of fasting have been fixture of Christian observance since the beginning. To my knowledge, the Eastern Churches remain rather strict on this point.

No mandatory system of regular ritual prayer (unless in a monastery)
Most traditions consider attendance at Sunday services (Mass, Divine Liturgy, etc) an obligation. Religious and clerics are also bound to pray the canonical hours.

While we laity may not be bound to observe any particular form of private prayer, frequent prayer is nonetheless a necessity of serious Christian life.

Forgiveness of sins if you repent and promise never to do it again
Well that's the thing isn't it? It's one thing to say in the moment that you'll never do it again, it's another to follow though. Final perseverance is guaranteed to no one

Which is a hard thing to do. We must love God more than we love ourselves. More than the ephemeral pleasures and empty promises of the world. We are commanded to be willing to die for God.
It's one thing to say you love God, it's another to prove it by taking up the Cross regardless of where it may lead or whatever it may cost.

Love others as you love God
Also difficult. Especially if you're a cratankerous mule like me. :D

I say Christianity:

I imagine Jesus would beg to differ. From the Sermon on the Mount:

Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it."

(Matthew 7:13-14)

Actually, i don't think that is correct.

Hinduism does not even require you to believe what it says many a times. You are welcome to differ. :D
I like the pun. :) Yes, it's true. I think this whole "saved by beliefs" is a rather modern phenomena in American Christianity.
