The Bear Called Boo

I'm not sure how many of you have heard his story , but he is becoming quite the famous bear . Advantures that songs are written about . :)

Boo's mother was illegally shot in 2002 . His brother and he spent some time with Grinder and Coola , two Grizzlies on Grouse Mountain who also lost their parents . They were then moved to the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort , where Boo's brother never woke from hibernation in the spring of 2004 . Boo has been by his self since then . Well , untill this spring . :)

Sorry , but these links pretty much repeat the same story , none giving the whole of it . If he does get a GPS collar , they are saying that he will also get his own website . If so , his story should be told .

We're rooting for you Boo . :)

Why all the worry about this specific bear? Aren't there dozens of other wild bears in the neighborhood?

painted wolf

Grey Muzzle
he's become a symbol... a sort of ambassador for the rest of his kin.

A captive bear that strives to be a wild bear. His struggle reflects that of the wild bears who are in a constant fight to live under human pressures.

Dozens ? Likely several hundred . :) But Boo is an orphaned as a cub , and never has been taught any survival skills . So there is concern in that area . But the main concern is that because he has been raised by humans , he likely has very little fear of them , and would likely see them as a source of food . Even if he means well , humans have a way of either over-reacting , or doing stupid things ... like trying to place their child on a bear's back so that they can get a good picture .... Hey , I have seen things just as stupid .

Plus he is a local bear . And I admire his determination . :)

And as PW says , he is somewhat of an ambassador . If he can return to the wild , perhaps others can too ? Boo is a modern day Elsa , the lioness from Born Free .
