I believe that gratitude not only enhances life but is essential to it. For some reason it feels extremely good to know that someone cares or appreciates what you do. To go through life without that feeling seems hard, if not impossible.
As for gratitude without God... Well, I sure as heck hope so or the world is in trouble. That aside, I know plenty of people that do not believe in God, and a couple that detest any form of religion, who can be very gracious. Or did you mean without the existance of God?
