The Ant and the Coin

One day an ant happened upon a copper coin. Its smooth and shiny nature intrigued the ant, and so the creature engaged it:

"Have you noticed the sky?" the ant said, smiling. The coin said nothing.

"Have you noticed the grass?" the and said, smiling. The coin said nothing.

Disturbed, the ant decided to commit his life to teaching the coin the Truth. Some time later, the ant grew old and died, having never elicited a single response from the object it devoted its life to.

Later, the coin rusted and turned to dust.

Ants may talk, but copper doesn't rust.

And in the process the ant lost sight of the grass and the sky too.

Moral: if someone says "a penny for your thoughts", hold out until they up the ante.
