The Age-old Question: Genocide in the OT

Hi All,

How do you treat the passages in the Bible that show God as commanding genocide? Do you view them as misunderstandings of God, allegory, literally true, or otherwise? Do you think these passages add to the Bible or detract from it?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Peace

Those unwilling or unable to recognize it as bombastic nationalistic folklore/propaganda are forced to embrace embrace genocide while blaming the victims, much as they applaud the Passover slaughter of the firstborn, "from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that [is] behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts".
