that little plot of land in Jerusalem

two questions.

1. Who does the Temple Mount, where King Solomon's temple was, and the Al Aqsa Mosque is currently, rightfully belong to? Why?

2. Do you believe that the Jews must rebuild their Temple before Jesus Christ returns? (If you happen to believe that he is returning)

answer either or both.

The Temple Mount and the Noble Sanctuary are the same area, but the religious buildings on them weren't necessarily in the same area. The First Temple is actually under the courtyard surrounding the Dome of the Rock, not beneath the Dome of the Rock itself (which makes sense, since under the Dome of the Rock is - hence - a solid rock).

It rightfully belongs to the people that live there and use it. We're talking about the holiest site in Judaism and the third holiest site in Islam, it's not as though anyone could ever lay claim to the whole thing.

It is currently shared, and right now that works :)

2. Do you believe that the Jews must rebuild their Temple before Jesus Christ returns? (If you happen to believe that he is returning)
Nope.

answer either or both.

A little off topic maybe. Was the first temple the one Ezekial described or is that a different temple and I forget was it Ezekial that said Jerusalem was rightfully the tribe of Benjamin's. Second even though im not Jewish or Christian I would like to see the temple rebuilt and I believe that the site belongs to no one and I find it strange that two different people that worship the same God can't share sites they both consider holy instead of laying claim.

I must say I am really surprised. I had the impression (sitting here in America) that control of TM was a big controversy. However, a Muslim and Jew just said it is working fine how it is. That is cool.

I thought Jews and Christians believed that the Jewish Temple had to be rebuilt, does anybody believe that or did I conjure that up on my own?

it rightfully belongs to whoever is in control, tho I'd like to see jews have the right to pray on the Temple Mount, which right now, we are not permitted to do so.

2. Do you believe that the Jews must rebuild their Temple before Jesus Christ returns? (If you happen to believe that he is returning)
since i don't believe in such a return this question is sort of pointless.

Because of its religious significance to both Judaism and Islam, it would be wrong for one religion to "take it over." The policy of sharing is the best one, and if it works smoothly, they should continue it.

my other big problem is the digging and construction work being done there. Not so much that it's being done but that they are uncovering priceless historical and archeological artifacts which are being tossed in the garbage...which whether in Jerusalem or Virginia, construction workers often do when they find "junk" in their way.

It belongs to God. Because His people worship Him there, Muslim and Jew alike. At least, that's the smartest answer I can come up with...:cover:

hmm. Jewscout, you just inspired a new thread. Might makes right?

yes, I apologize for not thinking of a more universally applicable question. How about, do you believe it is important that the Jewish Temple be rebuilt?

well it's a little sticky. The Rabbinate in Israel has forbid jews from going onto the mount for fear of ritually contaminating a spot they have deemed to still be holy, but there are a few who say it's ok so long as you don't go to certain parts where they believe you wouldn't have been allowed to go to are. Also, i'm not sure who put this into practice, but even when jews are allowed to go up, which is rare, they are forbidden from praying. If you even look like you could possibly be praying the Waqf and Israeli police escort you off.

eh it's ok.
Do i think it's important, yes, but the real question i think is, should the Temple be constructed before or after the coming of the Moshiach (from a jewish perspective)?

To me it's reconstruction symolizes not only Jewish Independence and sovereignty over Jerusalem but also the fulfillment of G-d's promise to the jewish people...

but how you work out the logistics of that w/ the Dome of the Rock standing right above where many say the Holy of Holies is...i don't know.

Temple Mount belongs to God as one poster said. As long as Jews, Christians, and Muslims fight over Jerusalem and Temple Mount as territorial prizes, there will never be peace in the Holy Land.
