it let her go and fly away
not me its favorite chew toy
under the red cat's paw
I struggled to inhale

love's great wings freed her
left me smelling red cat's breath
sad songs on a stupid radio
the breath of all lost loves

I sat quiet and stopped breathing
maybe red cat would lose interest
purr away and find something new
some other ranger kismet doll

as I asphyxiated and last light left my eyes
time slowed, and I left my body
my mind ran from that breath
thought of fragrant farms and oceans

it found the bottom of the sea
possessed a crab and lived in a shell
lived on scraps that fell and dead things
and was a teenager no more

Meow Mix

I am reminded of T.S. Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock:

Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets
And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes
Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows? ...

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

(T.S. Eliot is my absolute favorite, so I mean this as high praise)
