This was reported by the Afghan police.

The Taliban had imposed similar strict rules when it was in power, prior to the U.S. - NATO invasion in 2001.

Afghan women's rights activist: The Taliban 'will come and kill me' | DW | 14.08.2021

The Taliban previously ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, and imposed strict rules on women during that period. Women were unable to work or be in contact with men other then blood relatives, and had to wear a burqa while out in public.

If women violated the rules, they could face severe punishments from the Taliban, such as imprisonment, torture or even death. Women were often publicly flogged or executed during the Taliban's rule of Afghanistan.

Atahi said women under renewed Taliban occupation are witnessing the same types of restrictions, and added that the "situation is not good" in Taliban-controlled areas.

"There is a lot of war, women are not allowed to go to school and … they have been asked to wear the hijab and burqa," she said.

News agency Reuters reported Friday that Taliban insurgents stormed the offices of Azizi Bank in the southern city of Kandahar in early July, and ordered nine women working there to leave.

Even male relatives and service providers are also punished for similar trivial reasons.

Treatment of women by the Taliban - Wikipedia

  • If a taxi driver picked up a woman with her face uncovered or unaccompanied by a mahram, then he faced a jail sentence, and the husband would be punished.
  • If a woman was caught washing clothes in a river then she would be escorted home by Islamic authorities where her husband/mahram would be severely punished.
  • If a tailor was found taking female measurements, the tailor would face imprisonment.

This is just the beginning, once most of the foreign press have left and there is no more focus on them, it will get a lot worse I think.

What Officials told this newspaper?
What has this to do with the murder?

The Taliban were not in power when this murder happened.
The Police were still in control of that district.

Oh come on. I’m all for benefit of the doubt. But the Taliban? This is right up their alley.

Also to @ajay0 and @Ken S

I'm as horrified by any and all extreme Islamic terrorists as you folks, but the radio station ... Radio Azadi .....that reported this incident is owned by and funded by ....... the USA. I'm just cautious about reports at this time because the Taliban have walked in to their own country.... just walked.

At least we aren't dealing with scripture that reads like misogynistic war manuals. :(

#MeToo, I am all for benefit of the doubt. Sadly, I have no doubt here, reading below
"Afghanistan has long been one of the worst places on Earth to be a child but in recent weeks and, indeed, the last 72 hours, that's got a lot worse," Unicef Afghanistan's Samantha Mort told the BBC.

Violence has escalated as US-led troops, including Australian forces, have withdrawn from the country.
