It looks like an uncle has the virus. All the symptoms but not confirmed as NHS 24 have said they aren't testing unless he is hospitalised. Just hoping his condition doesn't deteriorate. It sounds like he's very ill.

My sister has a bunch of health issues that would make her very vulnerable and my mother has pretty bad athsma and constant chest infections so I'm ****ting it a bit, frankly. Both of them would have a real hard time if they caught the infection.

My partner works in social care in a mixed care unit. They've had one death from the virus so far. All of the residents recieved preprinted death certificates two days ago with covid-19 as cause of death. How dark is that?

All of this has just became much more real to me with news of my uncle. I just wanted to get it out.

I'm sure many of you are having worries about loved ones. Let's all hope for the best.

Stay home people. Stay healthy, keep your chin up, and pray if it helps. Personally I watch Bill Burr or listen to his podcast. Always has me in knots.

    "pray if it helps"

Extremely sorry to know all these things.
There is no harm if one turn to G-d and ask His help. Right, please?

    Regards

Are your mother and sister isolating themselves and getting someone else to run their errands? Not you or your partners obviously, since your partner - and thus you - may well have got infected.

But it's a funny disease: some people only get it slightly. I'm 65 and mine was pretty slight, the only longer term effect being loss of smell and taste, which I think may just possibly be starting to come back after a week. So not a foregone conclusion that it will be nasty, even if you are not a spring chicken.

Aye. We've got one of my brothers picking up bits and bobs for my sister, leaving them on the doorstep. She's ill right now but we don't think it's coronavirus, but we're trying to avoid risks. My mother is hopefully going to be working from her home from Monday. I've been staying away from everyone except my partner for about two weeks now. We can't risk me picking up the infection and giving it to my partner and then she takes in to work.

I'm glad to hear you recovered ok. It is a strange one. I think how resistant we are individually seems to be somewhat down to luck. Might be something to do with this: Major histocompatibility complex - Wikipedia

Hmm, that's interesting information, could be.

Anyway, all I can do is wish you and your family good luck.

    Oh no.

A surprise, or someone who was always likely to be in the firing line?

She's around 70, so more vulnerable than you young whippersnappers.
    I don't know her job.

Well, I'll be 66 in a few months and I didn't even need to spend a day in bed with it. One contemporary of mine had it the same as me, while another ended up in hospital with secondary pneumonia - he's out now and recovering.

There seems to be little rhyme or reason to how badly it hits people. I suppose some pattern may eventually emerge when all this is over, but at the moment it seems to be just random.

    Hah! I knew you're a young'n.
    I've been 66 since August.
So you had the dreaded plague, eh.
As for different outcomes, I suspect....
    - Genetics
    - Microbiome
    - Underlying conditions/maladies
    - Partial immunity gained from earlier exposure to something similar.

I know nothing of biology, so the above is just ignorant speculation.
