Aside from the Felicity Huffman’s situation where her class as well as her race benefitted her only allowing her to only serve 14 days behind bars (as opposed to the black woman who served 5 years for almost the exact same crime), check this out

I don’t normally like to talk about private things in my life but I have a DUI. Got it my second year in graduate school leaving a fraternity party. California Highway Patrol pulled me over I man’d up to my wrong skipped the test and was taken to the tank.

What’s pertinent in me mentioning this is because while being interviewed at the station I was asked my level of education. I told them that I attend the University of Southern California and a second year graduate student. They didn’t believe so I showed them my student ID.

One cop smirked “well I went to college to!”

Point is I’ve seen other students of color never do not one crime in their life get a DUI which is a misdemeanor offense but sentence to six months AA class. Ordered to complete 100 hours of CalTrans, ordered to attend a six month MADD class.

This was first time offense. No priors no nothing. This video boils my blood. This isn’t her having “pretty privilege” maybe it works for cops but judges sentencing should have not considered her privileges in this case. This is unfair especially considering drunk driving at least in California DUI is looked at seriously.

Her driver’s license should have been suspended and she should have been ordered to buy a breathalyzer for her car like I did and everyone else. Even with a good lawyer which would drop the fines and even the classes but her driver’s license should have been suspended. But this happened in South Carolina so I’m not surprised.

As we say in the black community she has the complexion for protection.

I think in cases like this the wealth and fame explains the leniency. The system doesn't even try to appear impartial when it comes to class. Makes you wonder what kind of crooked **** goes down behind the scenes. While perhaps not to the degree that others experience, middle and lower class whites still get **** on by the system.

Nope. It's 'Rich' privilege. White had nothing to do with it.

Yup. We don't have to worry about race and the police, we have to worry about class/money and the police. And the difference in results between a PD and a regular lawyer is astounding. And that's just being able to afford one at all, let alone sink some money into it. You're poor, the system is stacked against you. When you're rich, affluence has been used as an excuse for bad behavior and choices that get people killed. Overall, black and poor people tend to go into the courts with the worst assumed about them. Change those and your outcome will vary and be far more favorable.

This is probably more of a class and gender thing than her race in this case. Rich women tend to get not even slaps on the hand. If she was some poor white trash woman, I'm sure she'd be given a harsher sentence as poor people in general usually are.

That is elite Hollywood privilege and being rich. Try again.

Also to establish such a bias the judge in both cases needs to be the same. This case seems to have a judge that is more relaxed. The other case could have a judge that is by the books judge. You failed to identity anything about either judges as you only look at the results then reason backwards to your ideological conclusion you already held. You also failed to cite anything about the comparison case other than years and being black. Ergo there is nothing to evaluated as you provide zero information. For all I know the 5 years could have been due to how or where she was driving thus the action carried far more risks to the general public. Eg DUI on a quiet street vs DUI on the highway.

    Hear hear.

Plus women have the advantage in many areas where punitive actions come into play. All the way from preference with child custody to Twitch boob streamers essentially break every rule in the book but still managed to keep on with continual slaps on the wrist for their infractions were others get out right banned all because they can maintain a high Revenue stream both for themselves and for the advertisers and sponsors.

There's no doubt class ratings and position of wealth plays a very prominent role in the outcome of many various things . I think sex and ethnicity play a second hand role.

It would be a very interesting picture if we could get all the pieces of the puzzle place them on the table and see how everything stacks up.

I think class and privilege has always been an aspect of humanity and will remain so long into the future.

    Bull ****.

I also had a DUI in Arizona, while on vacation from California, leaving a family barbeque at my sisters house. I was under the legal limit, but because I had a CDL license, I was charged and had to go to jail, as well as have a breathalyzer installed in my car and lost my license for one full year.

...I couldn't get a job for 9 months after that.

With zero income, I had my wife and kids move in with my family in Arizona, while I went and lived in a tent at o'Neill Campground in Rancho Santa Margarita waiting for a call for employment. I lived in that tent for 9 long months... with no unemployment bebefits, because my employer claimed I lied on my application saying I had a valid CDL... But it wasn't a lie -when I hired on, my license was still valid. So because I was falsely accused of lying, I recieved no unemployment benefits. I literally went to soup kitchens and took food from Churches, while praying for a job every night.

    I am white.

Oh, and I'll never forgive or forget how the State blew me off and rejected all re-hearings for unemployment... Money that I paid in through taxes.

The US welfare system is a joke. Pretty much anywhere in Western Europe you would have been given money.

It is bad logic to make generalizations from a tiny number of cases that were hand-chosen to support the intended conclusion.

That was the most trying time of my life. A true test of patience and sanity.

...I read a lot of books, and said a lot of prayers during that time.

I had a near miss DUI in Missouri about 30 years ago.I knew I was over the limit ready to go to jail and have my car towed and impounded, all that fun stuff. When the cop saw I was white he apologized for pulling me over and said " wait a second" he then went to his trunk and pulled out a 12 pack of King Cobra (with two missing but hey, free beer) and gave it to me saying he confiscated it from some black kids and I might as well have it. He apologized again and told me to have a good night and I smiled and waved telling him to be safe .
    I love being white!

No really I was arrested and spent the night in jail with the rest of the animals paid my fines, and did all my A.A. , victims panels etc. A cab would have been much cheaper, it sucked.never got a DUI since.
    It's not worth it

It's true. Popular streamers on Twitch, YouTube, etc. are allowed to get away with more than other users due to the amount of revenue they bring to the platform.

Also, sex sales, as they say. It also buys leniency.

You messed up when you forgot to tell him that you were too pretty to go to jail.

The irony is that those who are often screwed by the system routinely vote to keep it that way.

I would haphazard to say that a white person would go to jail over any black elite who has wealth and influence.
