Sth Koreas anti-feminist gaming culture

Nothing brings out the superior and discerning morality of certain men than the obnoxious demand that women be treated as humans in their own right. Thank goodness these men are not social justice warriors. Then they'd be bad people!

On the other hand, the radical feminists calling upon women pregnant with male fetuses to get abortions, and similar male-hating things, are certainly over the line too. Animosity breeds animosity.

I'll have to tell my female gaming companion (of 20+ years) about this tonight. On second thought, maybe I won't. LOL. (She would quickly go into meltdown.) You see, we have two mutual friends who don't like playing with us because... she is a girl. *sigh* Meanwhile she is a superior player to both of them. Go figure. What is endlessly amusing is her and I prefer to play in "hardcore" mode which means if your character dies, you lose everything on that character and have to start from scratch, whereas our studly friends prefer "softcore" wherein when you die, after 10 seconds, you just get back up again and continue. Yep, real challenging. </rant>

I have a close friend from the ROK and I have heard story after story about terrible gamer guys, i'm not surprised at all by this.

North American gamer's don't seem to be that different, all in all.
I second that. A few days ago I joined a game with my studly male friends. Got "Hi Paul" from both of them. Shelley joined a few minutes later, I said, "Hiya Shelley" and no one else said a word. Trust me, she did notice. Unfortunately the RF rulebook precludes me from saying what she said on the phone a few minutes after leaving the game. (It would have made a trucker blush.)

I am a little surprised at this because occasionally on one radio show I listen to at times they talk about how gaming is becoming a spectator sport. I have heard them mention female talent from South Korea that were on top professional teams. The hosts are not conservative at all and I they never mentioned this.

Interesting. S Korea is widely known as having some of the strongest go
players in the world (eg, Lee Sedol, the top player who challenged AlphaGo).
Currently, Rui Naiwei (Chinese, but living in SK) is the world's strongest female
player, & has won a major open title. In this area of gaming, I've not heard
of rampant sexism. I'm sure there must be some, but it seems to have a very
different culture from electronic gaming.
I wonder...could electronic gaming standards of conduct be steered in the
direction of formal respect for one's fellows & opponents?

Is it as institutionalised as this seemed to be? I think that's what really surprised me. Rather than a sexist subculture it was more just systematically and openly sexist.

Thats an interesting take. Man, we need some South Korean members.
I think over time sheer ability of some female players will lead to them breaking down barriers, even if it's only due to commercial pragmatism, but at the moment that same driver (commercialism) might even be a handbrake, based on the article I linked.
