Last night I was having a daydream that everyone in the world was wiped out by meteor strike or some such, and only RFians were left, because I guess some prophet among us predicted it and we all hunkered down.

Anyway, everything was destroyed.

I asked the RFians if there are any people among us with the knowhow to rebuild the things that take special knowledge such as electric grids, power plants and so on.

Then I asked, Do we even want to?

Do we?

Even if we wanted, could we do it? I can just picture how that might go...

- "Hey, this bunker over there is for the Jews. This one's for the Christians. Last one's for the atheists."

-- "You mean the non-theists."

- "No, the atheists. Non-theists have their own bunker."

-- "They're the same."

- "No. Shut up and build."

-- "You shut up and educate your ignorant self."

*smashing each other with rusty materials and radioactive waste ensues*

If only RFians were left, what would the average IQ of humanity be?

Might get your uhm... prediction April 29th. :D

Large asteroid will fly by the Earth next month, but won't hit us, reassures NASA - CNN

Though it's not likely to hit us it's possible -- many asteroids are on orbits that have lots of perturbation. (That's to say they're not very static.)

And, yes, we want to rebuild everything (or even make it better) or you'll spend 99% percent of your life foraging for berries, fishing, and hunting. Which, while doable, is a real pain in the ***.

There are different estimates of the time needed for hunter-gathering versus farming. Some say farming is worse.

Farming is always more efficient if that goal is the primary concern. You can raise goats, sheep, and chickens with virtually no extra sweat. Most of the work is simply getting things planted then protecting them from pests. This is far easier than locating forage spots or chasing down animals that are way faster than you. :D You can also farm fish in self-created ponds or 55 gallon drums with sufficient nutrient base and filtration.

Farmers actually work more than hunter-gatherers, have less leisure time

See, we can't agree. We will split into the farmers versus the hunters. :D

Personally I wouldn't want to go back to a way of life that doesn't work very well ,I know how to make beer and moonshine and grow special herbs, the rest is necessity, the mother of invention,as long as it's not the same **** inventions as before :-/

How many RFians are there? Most modern industries require a bunch of specialists and workers to function. Even with all the knowledge of today we'd lose the practical applications of that knowledge. We'd fall back to the state of a medieval village (mostly). I wouldn't care that much since living history is hobby of mine and I'd be able to do most of the crafts necessary (and have the tools).

Answer: "Define IQ".

The intelligence of that creature known as a crowd is the square root of the number of people in it.
